To repeat the Nugget Bridge reward, beat the first five trainers, leave the final Team Rocket Grunt unbeaten, then take the Nugget he gives you before the battle and deliberately lose. After you black out, return to him and repeat. The loop is reported to work in Japanese and English releases; Bulbapedia says European localizations fixed it.

How to do the Nugget Bridge glitch

  1. Reach Nugget Bridge. It is north of Cerulean City.
  2. Defeat the first five trainers. Do not beat the final Team Rocket Grunt at the end of the bridge.
  3. Prepare to lose. If you want a predictable loss, put a weak Pokémon in your party; taking only one low-level Pokémon is a convenience, not a requirement.
  4. Speak to the Grunt. He gives you a Nugget before revealing himself as a Team Rocket recruiter and starting a battle.
  5. Lose the battle. After you black out, check your Bag to confirm the Nugget is still there, then return to the Grunt and repeat the sequence. Avoid winning the battle until you are done farming.
  6. Sell the Nuggets if you want cash. PokeCoders reports a sale value of 5,000 Pokémon Dollars per Nugget. That is the gross sale value; the money lost when you black out can reduce your net gain.

Why the repeat works

Bulbapedia’s Generation III overworld glitches reference attributes the repeat to an event flag that has not been set before the battle. Because the Nugget is handed over before the fight, losing can leave the event available to trigger again. This is commonly called a glitch by players, but it is not an external cheat code.

Which versions support the loop?

Bulbapedia reports that the repeat works in Japanese and English versions, while European localizations fixed it. If the Grunt does not hand over another Nugget after a loss, check the game’s language and localization before assuming a step was missed. The available compatibility information does not identify every cartridge revision or region code, so it does not establish a complete version-by-version list.

Nintendo’s FireRed and LeafGreen FAQ says the Switch editions broadly contain the same content as the original Game Boy Advance releases, with some specifications differing. The games are digital-only on Switch, with no physical Switch release. Nintendo does not confirm this specific glitch works in the Switch editions, so the general content statement should not be treated as verification of the repeat.
