Start Bravil Recommendation with Kud-Ei
Go to the Mages Guild in Bravil and speak to Kud-Ei. Select the dialogue topic about Varon Vamori and the Mage’s Staff to begin Bravil Recommendation. If the topic is not visible near the top of the dialogue list, check farther down. PowerPyx’s Oblivion Remastered walkthrough covers the quest steps.
Use the Beguile scroll on Varon Vamori
Track the quest and find Varon Vamori. Kud-Ei gives you a Beguile scroll; use it on Varon, then ask him about Ardaline and the Mage’s Staff. This moves the quest toward recovering the stolen staff.
Retrieve the staff from Soris Arenim’s House
Follow the quest objective to Soris Arenim’s House in the Talos Plaza District of the Imperial City. The staff is stored in a locked drawer in the basement. The walkthrough describes taking Soris’s key from his private quarters and using it to open the drawer; it does not establish a different route or a lock difficulty for Remastered.

Bravil Recommendation is not A Mage’s Staff
These are two different Mages Guild quests. Bravil Recommendation is Kud-Ei’s Bravil quest to recover a stolen staff. A Mage’s Staff is a later quest given by Raminus Polus at the Arcane University, involving a separate trip to Wellspring Cave. Make sure a walkthrough is describing Bravil Recommendation before following its directions. The Elder Scrolls Wiki’s Bravil Recommendation page identifies the Bravil quest and its context.
