For Steam Community Market sale proceeds, a Steam notice quoted by a Community user says an unusual-price sale may be held for up to five days. That is not a universal deadline for every pending Steam balance. Check the notice or estimate attached to your transaction: “pending” can also mean a Market item hold, a refund, a failed card authorization, or a Wallet top-up that has not appeared.
Steam Market sale proceeds: up to five days for a specific hold notice
A Steam notice reproduced in a Steam Community discussion says funds from a sale with an unusual purchase price may be held for up to five days. During that time, they appear in the pending Wallet balance; Steam may reverse the transaction and return the item to the seller’s Inventory if necessary. The notice also says Steam Support cannot modify or accelerate the hold. Read the quoted notice in its Community discussion.

This is conditional guidance from a notice attributed to Steam by the person who posted it, not a published deadline for all Market sales. Steam’s Community Market FAQ and Steam Wallet FAQ do not state a universal timetable for pending sale proceeds or explain which sales are selected for a hold. Use the estimate or message shown for your own transaction.
Market proceeds are Steam Wallet funds, not cash awaiting a bank transfer. Steam says Community Market funds cannot be withdrawn or transferred to a bank or third-party account.

First identify what is pending
The timeframes below describe different events. They are not interchangeable answers to how long a Market sale hold lasts.
| What you see pending | What is being held | Documented timing |
|---|---|---|
| Unusual-price Market sale | Sale proceeds in your pending Wallet balance | Up to five days in the quoted Steam notice; conditional on that notice appearing for the sale. Source |
| Market item hold | The item, before it becomes available to list | Up to 15 days if the account has not had Mobile Authenticator protection for at least the previous seven days. Source |
| Approved refund | The refund or Wallet credit | Up to seven days for an approved refund; approved Steam Wallet credit may take 24–48 hours. Source |
| Failed purchase card authorization | A bank or card-issuer authorization | Steam says release follows the bank’s policy and may take up to 30 days in the cases described. Source |
| Missing Wallet top-up | Purchased Wallet funds that have not appeared | Steam advises contacting Support if the balance is still wrong more than two hours after purchase, after checking the receipt, account, and client. Source |
What to do while the balance is pending
- Open your Steam Wallet or Account Details and transaction history. Identify whether the entry came from a Market sale, refund, card purchase, or Wallet top-up.
- Read the transaction message and any Steam email. Follow the estimate shown for that transaction rather than applying another process’s timeframe.
- If the sale has the unusual-price hold notice, wait through its stated period. The quoted notice says Support cannot shorten or change that hold.
- If a Wallet top-up is missing, check the receipt and account, then restart the Steam client. If the balance remains wrong more than two hours after purchase, contact Steam Support using the Wallet FAQ.
- If a failed card purchase left an authorization pending, contact your bank or card issuer. For the failed-purchase cases described by Steam, the bank controls release under its own policy; Steam says it does not collect those funds.
Why a Market item hold is not a pending-funds delay
A Market item hold occurs before an item can be listed; it does not describe proceeds from an item that has already sold. Steam’s Trade and Market Holds guidance says an item can be held for up to 15 days when the account has not had Mobile Authenticator protection for at least the prior seven days. Adding an authenticator is not a way to release sale proceeds already pending under a separate sale notice.
