Set the subscriber’s account as the Home Xbox on one console, then have the subscriber sign in and stay connected on the other. A different profile can use subscription-enabled content on the Home Xbox while the subscriber plays on the second console. Microsoft’s rules limit each game to one console at a time, with this different-user Home-console arrangement as the stated exception.

How to share Xbox Game Pass Ultimate between two consoles

  1. Choose the console to share. This is the one where another person should be able to play using their own profile.
  2. Sign in there with the account that has Game Pass Ultimate.
  3. Set it as the Home Xbox. On that console, go to Settings > Personalization > My home Xbox and choose the option to designate it as the account’s Home Xbox. Microsoft documents this setting in its Product sharing model for games.
  4. Use the other console as the roaming console. Sign in on it with the subscribing account and keep that account connected to Xbox services.
  5. Have each player use their own profile. The other player uses their profile on the Home Xbox; the subscriber uses their profile on the roaming console. The subscription remains attached to the subscriber’s account.

Can two people play Game Pass at the same time on separate Xboxes?

Yes, in the specific arrangement Microsoft describes: the subscriber plays on the roaming console while a different user plays on the subscriber’s Home Xbox. Microsoft’s digital-goods usage rules also say a game can be played on only one console at a time. Do not treat this setup as permission for the same account to run the same game on both consoles simultaneously.

What changes between the Home Xbox and the second console?

Access mode Who can use subscription-enabled content? Must the subscriber be signed in? What if the subscriber goes offline?
Home Xbox Anyone who signs in to the designated console can use shared content. No. Other profiles do not need the subscriber to remain signed in on that console. Other profiles can use content shared through the Home Xbox designation without the subscriber remaining signed in there.
Roaming console The subscriber; other profiles’ access to roaming licenses depends on the subscriber’s active sign-in. Yes, and the console must be connected to Xbox services. Other users lose access to roaming licenses if the subscriber signs out.

Microsoft explains the Home-console behavior in its console sharing model: the purchaser of digital content can share access with anyone else who signs in to the Home console. The Home designation shares eligible content; it does not transfer ownership of the subscription to other profiles.

Do you need to make both Xboxes your Home Xbox?

No. The account designates one Home Xbox for this sharing arrangement. The other console is used as the roaming console, where the subscriber signs in and stays connected. Microsoft says the Home Xbox designation can be changed up to five times in a rolling one-year period; changing it moves the device licenses to the newly selected console. Check Microsoft’s current usage rules before changing the designation, especially if you have already switched consoles during the year.

What Game Pass access is shared?

The documented sharing model covers digital games and subscription-enabled content on the Home Xbox, with roaming access tied to the subscriber’s sign-in. It does not establish that every Ultimate perk, reward, or benefit from a third-party game transfers to another profile. Check the terms for a specific benefit or game entitlement rather than assuming it is shared.

Game Pass features and its catalog can change by plan, region, platform, and date. For current plan details and supported access options, consult Xbox’s Game Pass page.

Is cloud gaming required?

No. Cloud gaming is a separate way to play and is not the mechanism used to share access between two Xbox consoles. Xbox’s cloud gaming page lists availability, supported devices and regions, compatible controllers, and internet requirements for cloud play; those cloud requirements should not be confused with the console-sharing setup above.
