To start Shadow of the Erdtree, defeat Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood, then interact with the cocoon at the Cocoon of the Empyrean Site of Grace in Mohg’s arena. That interaction takes you to the Realm of Shadow.
How do I start the DLC?
- Make sure the save you are playing has defeated both Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood.
- Travel to the Cocoon of the Empyrean Site of Grace in Mohg’s arena.
- Interact with the cocoon to enter the Realm of Shadow.
- Activate a Site of Grace in the Realm of Shadow. Once you have done so, you can use the map to travel between that region and the Lands Between.
Where is Miquella’s cocoon?
The cocoon is in Mohg’s arena, at the Site of Grace named Cocoon of the Empyrean. Use that Grace to reach the arena, then interact with the cocoon to access the expansion. The publisher’s official access instructions identify this as the entry point.
What happens if I die before finding a Site of Grace?
If you die in the Realm of Shadow before activating a Site of Grace there, you return to the Lands Between. Travel back to the Cocoon of the Empyrean and interact with the cocoon to enter again. After you activate a Grace in the new region, the map lets you travel between the two regions.
What if the entrance is unavailable?
- Check the boss requirements: both Radahn and Mohg must be defeated on the save.
- Check access to the expansion: Shadow of the Erdtree requires the Elden Ring base game. The publisher confirms this on its official expansion page.
- Refresh the game session: if the DLC data finished downloading while you were already playing, return to the title screen once before trying again.
The official instructions do not specify separate console, license, regional, or installation troubleshooting steps.
