To unlock Mirror Mode in Mario Kart World, finish every Grand Prix course at 150cc, place in the top four in every Knockout Tour at 150cc, and complete 10 of each of three Free Roam collectibles or activities: P Switches, ? Panels, and Peach Medallions. Then replay Special Cup; the detailed unlock guide says your placement in that replay does not matter.
Mirror Mode unlock requirements
The checklist spans Grand Prix, Knockout Tour, and Free Roam. Complete the first two at 150cc, meet the specified Knockout Tour placement threshold, and reach 10 in each Free Roam category before replaying Special Cup.
| Mode | What to complete |
|---|---|
| Grand Prix | Complete every course at 150cc. No first-place finish or trophy is required, according to NintendoSoup’s report of a Nintendo promotional email. |
| Knockout Tour | At 150cc, finish in the top four in every tour, as specified by Nintendo Life’s detailed guide. |
| Free Roam | Complete or find 10 P Switch activities, 10 ? Panels, and 10 Peach Medallions. Nintendo Life calls the first category P Switches; NintendoSoup’s email report calls them P Switch Missions. |
| Final trigger | Replay Special Cup after completing the other requirements. Nintendo Life says placement in this replay does not matter; the email report says to play it at 150cc. |
How to complete each part
1. Finish every Grand Prix course at 150cc
Play through every Grand Prix cup and complete all its courses at 150cc. Nintendo describes Grand Prix cups as four-race cups, and its support page explains how to choose a cup and class when starting Grand Prix: Nintendo Support: How to start a Grand Prix in Mario Kart World.
The reported Nintendo email says a trophy or first-place result is not required for this part. The requirement is completing the courses at the stated class.

2. Place in the top four in every Knockout Tour
Run every Knockout Tour at 150cc and finish each one in the top four. This threshold comes from Nintendo Life’s detailed guide, published July 1, 2026. NintendoSoup’s June 13, 2025 report of a Nintendo promotional email says to play every rally at 150cc, but does not specify a top-four finish. The email itself is not available in the cited material, so the two accounts should not be treated as identical confirmation of the placement threshold.
3. Collect or complete 10 in each Free Roam category
In Free Roam, reach 10 for each of the following—not 10 total across all three:
Rank #2
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld

- Traverse mountains, forests, cities, and more—with shifting weather patterns and a day/night cycle
- 10 P Switch activities or P Switches
- 10 ? Panels
- 10 Peach Medallions
The wording differs slightly between the two accounts for the P Switch category: Nintendo Life calls them P Switches, while NintendoSoup’s report of the email calls them P Switch Missions.
4. Replay Special Cup
Once the other requirements are complete, play Special Cup again. NintendoSoup’s report says to play it at 150cc; Nintendo Life says the replay’s placement does not matter. Nintendo Life also describes a post-credits scene that confirms the unlock.

If Mirror Mode does not appear
Before replaying Special Cup again, use this checklist to find a missed requirement. These checks follow from the unlock list; they are practical troubleshooting rather than separately documented Nintendo instructions.
- Confirm that every Grand Prix course has been completed at 150cc.
- Check that every Knockout Tour was played at 150cc and that each finish met the top-four threshold specified by Nintendo Life.
- Verify that Free Roam shows 10 for each of P Switch activities, ? Panels, and Peach Medallions.
- After correcting any shortfall, replay Special Cup.
What Nintendo has officially said
Nintendo’s 2025 Mario Kart World Direct description teases the unlock without giving the full checklist: “Conquer every Grand Prix Cup and you might just unlock a certain colorful course!” (Nintendo’s official Mario Kart World Direct.) The detailed steps above come from Nintendo Life’s guide and NintendoSoup’s secondary report of a promotional email—not from a complete official Nintendo checklist published in the cited sources.
