You can get mod-like changes for Minecraft on Xbox One through Bedrock Edition add-ons, usually found in the in-game Marketplace. Activate an add-on in a world’s Resource Packs or Behavior Packs settings. These are not Java Edition mods: the official Xbox route is Marketplace content, not installing arbitrary PC mod files or third-party installers.

What “mods” means on Minecraft for Xbox One

Minecraft on Xbox One uses the Bedrock Edition add-on system. Add-ons can change gameplay and add content such as blocks, items, mobs, and recipes. Minecraft distinguishes these from Java Edition mods, which are for the computer edition; see Minecraft’s Java and Bedrock edition comparison.

For Xbox, look for compatible content in the in-game Marketplace. Minecraft’s official add-on guide documents how to activate packs in worlds and Realms. Avoid instructions that promise to install Java mod files or arbitrary downloaded PC files directly on the console.

Get and activate an add-on

For a new world

  1. Launch Minecraft and select Play.
  2. On the Worlds tab, select Create new world.
  3. Choose the Marketplace content you want, or continue creating the world and open its Resource Packs or Behavior Packs settings.
  4. Find the add-on under Available and select Activate. Create the world when ready.

For an existing world

  1. From Play, find the world and select its pencil/edit icon.
  2. Open Resource Packs or Behavior Packs.
  3. Under Available, select Activate for the add-on, then return and play the world.

For a Realm

  1. Open Realms and the settings for the Realm.
  2. Edit the world slot you want to use, then open Add-Ons and choose Resource Packs or Behavior Packs.
  3. Activate the pack, confirm the changes, and wait for the updated world to upload before playing.

Players joining that Realm from a Bedrock device automatically download and apply the Realm’s activated add-ons, according to the official add-on instructions.

Find add-ons you already own or can access

Open Minecraft: Bedrock Edition > Marketplace > My Library. Find the item under Owned or Marketplace Pass, then choose the available action, such as Download, Create this World, or Equip. The exact action depends on the content. See Minecraft’s Minecoins and Marketplace information.

What it costs and what to check before buying

Marketplace purchases use Minecoins. Minecraft lists Xbox as a compatible platform and says that linking a Microsoft account can make Minecoins and non-exclusive purchases available across supported Bedrock devices. Its Minecoins page also says Minecoins purchases are final, so check the item and platform details before spending.

Minecraft also offers Marketplace Pass, a recurring subscription that provides access to a library of content, including add-ons. When the official page was accessed in 2026, it displayed a free 30-day offer followed by $3.99 per month. Offers and prices can change; check the current terms shown by Minecraft before subscribing. Subscription access is distinct from owning a Minecoins-purchased item.

Why some pages say Marketplace is unavailable on Xbox

An older Minecraft Feedback Marketplace FAQ says Xbox One does not support Marketplace. That conflicts with Minecraft’s current Marketplace, Minecoins, and add-on guidance, which lists Xbox compatibility and provides the in-game add-on process. Treat the older FAQ as legacy information rather than the current instructions.
