The simplest early home to unlock in Fallout: New Vegas is the Dino Dee-lite motel room in Novac. Ask Jeannie May Crawford at the front desk: at Neutral Novac reputation, the key costs 100 caps; at Accepted reputation or higher, it is free. Other options include the Lucky 38 suite, casino rooms, faction safehouses and The Sink from the Old World Blues add-on.
Get the Novac motel room
- Travel to Novac and go to the Dino Dee-lite motel front desk.
- Speak with Jeannie May Crawford and ask about renting a room. At Neutral Novac reputation, the key costs 100 caps; at Accepted reputation or better, she gives it to you free.
- If Jeannie May is dead, speak with Cliff Briscoe at the Dino Bite gift shop for the key.
This is a straightforward early ownable room, but the available sources do not establish that it is the first place in the game where you can sleep or leave belongings.

Choose a home for what you need
- Want a simple early room? Novac offers a clear key price or reputation-based free option.
- Want companion management? The Lucky 38 is the distinctive choice for specifically sending companions to a home.
- Want crafting and repair facilities? The Brotherhood safehouse and The Sink have listed benches; The Sink also has an electric hot plate.
- Following a faction? The faction safehouses unlock through their own quest or reputation conditions, rather than one shared requirement.
- Prefer a casino reward? The Tops suites and Ultra-Luxe suite require casino progress; only the Ultra-Luxe threshold is stated here.
- Need dependable storage? Do not assume every room or safehouse has safe containers. The Atomic Wrangler room is specifically described as lacking them, and the sources conflict on the NCR Ranger safehouse.
