Open the console on PC
- Find the top-row key directly to the left of 1.
- Press it to open the developer console. Bethesda Support identifies this physical key position as the one to use; the printed symbol varies by layout. Its Spanish-language support page gives º as a Spanish example and ` as a UK example. Bethesda Support: ¿Cómo se accede a la consola del juego?
- With the console prompt open, type help to display the command list, as Bethesda Support describes.
If the key does not work
Try the physical key immediately left of 1, rather than searching for a key labelled ~. The symbol on that position differs across layouts; the Fallout Wiki lists German examples ^ or ö and French examples ² or ù. - Check which keyboard layout is active, especially if the key’s printed symbol differs from the expected one.
- If needed, consult a reference for your specific layout and test the key at the same physical position.
Platforms and mode limitations
The developer console is a PC feature. The Fallout Wiki says it is unavailable in the console editions of Fallout 4 and in Survival mode. A keyboard attached to a PS4 does not provide the PC console interface: Bethesda Support says Fallout 4 does not support mouse and keyboard on PS4.
