On a Windows PC, install Fortnite through the Epic Games Launcher: download the launcher from Epic, sign in, select Fortnite in the Store, choose GET, then install it from your Library. Fortnite’s base game is free; in-app purchases are available.
Before you install Fortnite
Check Epic’s current Fortnite PC system requirements and make sure your PC has enough free space for the installation. Epic’s listed minimums and recommended specifications are:

Epic also lists an “Epic Quality Presets” tier, but that higher tier is not necessary just to install the game. Epic’s separate launcher requirements page lists Windows 10 (64-bit) and Windows 11 as supported and 3 GB storage for the launcher itself. That 3 GB is not Fortnite’s total installation size.
How to install Fortnite on a Windows PC
- Download the Epic Games Launcher. Get the installer from Epic Games’ official download page, then run it and follow the setup prompts. You can choose the launcher’s installation location during setup.
- Open the launcher and sign in. Use your Epic Games account, or create one if you do not have one.
- Find Fortnite in the Store. Select Store, search for Fortnite, and open the game’s tile.
- Select GET. This adds Fortnite to your Epic account and Library. You do not need to buy the base game or purchase V-Bucks to download it.
- Open your Library and select Fortnite. If Epic presents terms, read and accept them to continue.
- Choose the game’s installation folder. Epic’s stated default is
C:Program FilesEpic Games; you can select another folder if you prefer. - Select Install. Wait for the download and installation to finish. Then select Fortnite in the launcher to start the game.
Epic’s Fortnite installation instructions and its general launcher guide describe this Store-to-Library process. The current total download size is not stated on the Fortnite installation page, so check the install prompt and available drive space before proceeding.

Reinstall Fortnite if it is already in your Library
- Open the Epic Games Launcher and select Library.
- Open Fortnite’s game menu and select Uninstall.
- When uninstalling is complete, select Fortnite in the Library and follow the installation steps again.
Sign in with the same Epic Games account you used before. Epic says Fortnite progress and items are stored with the account rather than on the device; its uninstall and reinstall instructions explain the process.
