In Minecraft Java Edition, an ender pearl stasis chamber holds a thrown pearl at the top of an upward bubble column, then releases it by making it hit a solid block. The pearl teleports its thrower to the chamber when triggered. Build the column from soul sand and source water; this is a working principle, not a tested block-by-block schematic.
How the stasis chamber works
A stasis chamber is a redstone or mechanical contraption, not a craftable block. Soul sand beneath source water creates an upward bubble column. The column keeps an ender pearl afloat; a trigger such as a closing trapdoor makes the pearl hit a solid surface and teleport the player who threw it. The Minecraft Wiki’s bubble column reference describes these interactions.
What you need
- Soul sand for the bottom of the upward bubble column.
- Source-water blocks to form the column.
- An ender pearl thrown by the player who should be teleported.
- A trigger that makes the suspended pearl contact a solid surface. A closing trapdoor is one documented example.
Build and activate the chamber
- Place soul sand at the base of the intended column.
- Fill the column above it with source water. Bubble columns propagate through source water but stop at flowing water or waterlogged blocks, so ensure the column is made of source blocks throughout.
- Throw an ender pearl into the upward column so it remains at the top. The exact alignment and block-by-block layout can vary; the available reference explains the mechanic but does not provide a tested schematic.
- Set up a trigger, such as a trapdoor, to make the pearl hit a solid surface when activated.
- Activate the trigger when you want the pearl’s thrower to return to the chamber.
Edition and version matter
The cited reference describes this stasis behavior as Java Edition-only. Do not assume the same construction works unchanged in Bedrock Edition; the available evidence does not establish an authoritative Bedrock method.
Java pearl behavior has also changed across versions. In its September 11, 2024 notes for Java Snapshot 24w37a, Mojang said it fixed a bug that prevented ender pearls from teleporting players to the point of impact and changed thrown pearls to load and tick chunks. Does a stasis chamber keep chunks loaded while you are offline?
No such guarantee is supported by the cited snapshot notes. Mojang said pearls unload when their throwing player logs out and reappear when that player logs back in. The same notes say thrown pearls load and tick chunks while active, but that should not be read as an offline chunk-loading promise. See the snapshot notes.

What to check if the pearl will not stay suspended
- Confirm the build is in Java Edition; this behavior is not established here for Bedrock.
- Check that soul sand is beneath the column and that the column uses source water throughout.
- Look for flowing water or waterlogged blocks interrupting the bubble column.
- Check the target Java version: pearl behavior can differ between releases, and the cited snapshot notes do not certify every design.
