You can change your character’s appearance on Nintendo Switch using Minecraft’s Dressing Room and Marketplace, but you cannot import a custom skin image such as a PNG. Minecraft’s published Character Creator FAQ says, “We do not have plans for importing custom skins on consoles.”

What “custom skins” means on Switch

If you mean a skin file you made or downloaded on a phone or computer, Minecraft on Switch has no supported import workflow. The console limitation applies to importing the file; it does not prevent you from changing your character’s appearance with Minecraft’s built-in options.

Minecraft’s Character Creator FAQ lists Nintendo Switch as a platform with Character Creator, while stating that custom-skin importing on consoles is not planned. This is the published support position, not a guarantee about future updates; check the game’s menus if a later update appears to add an import option.

Change your look with Character Creator

  1. Open Minecraft on your Nintendo Switch.
  2. Go to the Dressing Room and open Character Creator.
  3. Choose from the character-creation options available in the game, then equip your look.

Character Creator lets you assemble a look from in-game options. It is different from importing a complete PNG skin.

Find and equip Marketplace skins or character items

Minecraft Marketplace is the supported route for creator-made skin packs and character items. Minecraft Help lists Nintendo Minecoins and Marketplace purchases; prices and individual items can vary by region and availability, so check the item and checkout details in your own game.

  1. Open Minecraft Marketplace and browse skin packs or character items.
  2. After obtaining content, open Marketplace and select My Library.
  3. Choose Owned or Marketplace Pass, as applicable, and select the relevant content. Depending on the content, choose Download, Create this world, or Equip.
  4. For character items, open Dressing Room and select the item to equip it.

These steps follow Minecraft Help’s instructions for accessing Marketplace content. A skin pack and an individual character item may be used differently, so follow the option shown for the item you selected.

Does a Microsoft account let you import a skin?

No. Minecraft Help describes Microsoft account sign-in on Switch as a way to use crossplay and connected account features; it does not enable custom PNG imports.

  1. Start Minecraft and select Sign in with a Microsoft Account.
  2. On a phone or computer, open the Remote Connection page shown by the game.
  3. Enter the code displayed on the Switch, sign in to the Microsoft account you want to link, and confirm that it is the correct account.

For the official steps, see Minecraft Help’s Nintendo Switch account sign-in guide.

Character Creator A look assembled from in-game character options Open Dressing Room and customize your character Available on Switch according to Minecraft’s Character Creator FAQ; specific item availability is not stated there
Marketplace skin pack A creator-made skin pack Browse Marketplace; find owned content in My Library May require purchase; current price and regional availability depend on the item and checkout
Marketplace character item An individual character item to equip Find it in your library, then select it in Dressing Room May require purchase or be included through Marketplace Pass; check the item in-game
Imported PNG skin A skin image made or downloaded outside Minecraft No supported import method on Switch is stated in Minecraft’s published console FAQ Not supported under the published console-import position

Why phone, USB, and other-platform instructions do not apply

Instructions for copying a file from a phone, USB drive, or another Bedrock platform describe a different setup, not a supported Nintendo Switch import method. The official console FAQ does not offer a workaround for bringing those files into Switch Minecraft. Use Character Creator or Marketplace content instead.
