In Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, romance progress comes from companion conversations, choices that respect each character’s outlook, and personal quests—not from a single universal romance switch. The original-game guide published by GameSpot on December 5, 2023 names Cassia, Heinrix, Jae, and Yrliet. DLC adds further romance content, and Owlcat has patched romance scenes, so treat older route steps as guide-derived examples rather than guaranteed requirements for every current build.
How romance progression works
Speak with companions one-on-one when new dialogue becomes available, choose responses in keeping with their personalities, and pursue their personal quests. A route may also depend on a particular event or decision later in the story. The GameSpot guide offers practical examples, but it is not an official specification of every route flag.
For version context, Owlcat’s 1.1.28 patch notes describe fixes to romance scenes and dialogue, including problems that could stop progress. Those changes are a reason to check old walkthrough steps against your game version rather than assume every scene will trigger identically.
Original-game companion routes
The following route examples come from GameSpot’s December 2023 guide to the original game. They are useful prompts for how to approach each companion, not a complete or officially verified checklist of mandatory flags.

What to know about DLC romances
Kibellah
A GameFAQs walkthrough includes a romance section for Kibellah, indicating romance content beyond the original-game roster. It is a community guide, not official confirmation of every current route requirement or achievement condition.
Lex Imperialis’ Arbites companion
In a developer Q&A, Owlcat said that the new Arbites companion romance coming in Lex Imperialis would be available to characters of any gender. That statement announces the option but does not, by itself, verify its release status on every platform or provide route instructions.

Processional of the Damned
Owlcat’s September 24, 2026 preview says the Processional of the Damned DLC will include a new romance option. The preview does not name the character or describe the route, so no specific character or trigger can be confirmed from that announcement.

Romance scenes have had bugs significant enough to interrupt a route. Owlcat’s 1.1.28 notes report fixing a Cassia scene that could fail to start and prevent further romance progress, as well as a Jae cutscene that could fail on older saves. The same notes say some romance and personal-encounter dialogue checks now use the Lord Captain’s stats. A missed scene or different check result may therefore reflect a version or save-specific issue, not necessarily a wrong dialogue choice.

The available sources do not establish a complete current roster across all DLC, official route flags for every companion, or whether every announced option is available in every platform build. For a particular route, use the character-specific guidance above as a starting point and verify it against the game version and DLC you are playing.
