Enter /difficulty peaceful in Minecraft chat to set the world’s difficulty to Peaceful. Peaceful is a difficulty, not a gamemode; /gamemode changes a player’s mode instead.
Set the difficulty to Peaceful
- Open the in-game chat. If you are managing a server, you can enter the command in its console instead.
- Type
/difficulty peacefuland submit it.
The command sets the difficulty to Peaceful. Minecraft’s official guide notes that command suggestions appear above the text box as you type, which can help confirm available syntax: How to Use Commands in Minecraft.

Bedrock command alternatives
Bedrock also accepts /difficulty p and /difficulty 0 as alternatives for Peaceful. The full-word command is the clearest choice and is documented for both Java server settings and Bedrock: Bedrock /difficulty command reference and Minecraft Java Edition server settings.
Why “gamemode” is not the right command
Difficulty and gamemode are separate settings. Use /difficulty peaceful to change difficulty. The /gamemode command changes a player’s mode; Bedrock’s documented values include survival, creative, adventure, and default. See Microsoft’s Bedrock /gamemode reference and Bedrock command guide.

If the command does not work
- Check cheats or command access. Bedrock’s command reference requires cheats. Minecraft’s official guide explains that commands can be enabled in World Options after world creation.
- Check your permissions. On another person’s multiplayer world or server, you need sufficient authority. Ask the owner or an operator to run the command if you cannot.
- Check the syntax offered by your installation. Edition, version, and server configuration can affect available commands. Try in-game autocomplete or
/help difficultyif the command is rejected.
