To redeem a 25-digit Minecoin prepaid code, sign in to the Microsoft account you use with Minecraft on Switch, enter the code on Microsoft’s or Minecraft’s official redemption page, and then check your Marketplace balance in the game. The code is not entered through a special Nintendo Switch menu.

Redeem a Minecoin code and check your balance

  1. Open the Microsoft account redemption page or Minecraft’s code redemption page.
  2. Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with Minecraft on your Nintendo Switch. If you use a different account, the Minecoins may not appear in the game.
  3. Enter the 25-digit code and follow the on-screen prompts to complete redemption.
  4. Launch Minecraft on Switch, open the Marketplace, and check the Minecoin balance.

Minecraft Help directs players to redeem codes online and then verify the balance in the Marketplace; it does not direct players to enter the code on the Switch itself. See Minecraft’s code and account FAQ.

Redeeming a code is different from buying Minecoins in Nintendo eShop

A prepaid Minecoin code is redeemed through the Microsoft or Minecraft web flow. Nintendo eShop is a separate in-game purchase route: Nintendo’s Minecraft listing for Switch says Minecoins can be purchased in Nintendo eShop. An eShop gift card adds funds to your Nintendo eShop balance; it is not a Minecoin code to enter on Minecraft’s redemption page.

What changes on October 27, 2026

In an announcement published September 1, 2026, Minecraft says Minecoins purchased in Minecraft on a Nintendo device (Switch or Switch 2) will be usable only on those systems starting October 27, 2026. Minecoins bought on another device will no longer be usable for Marketplace purchases on Nintendo devices from that date. Read Minecraft’s Nintendo wallet announcement for the full policy.

Existing Minecoins and the new Nintendo Wallet

Minecoins owned before October 27 will move to a Legacy Wallet. Minecraft says that balance will remain usable across compatible platforms, will not expire, and will be spent before Minecoins purchased after the change. New Minecoins bought from a Nintendo device will go into a separate Nintendo Wallet.

Check a prepaid card’s platform support

Minecraft warns that newer retail Minecoin cards may no longer support Nintendo devices. Check the platforms printed on the card packaging before buying or redeeming it; the Minecoin label alone does not establish Switch compatibility.

If Minecoins do not appear on Switch

  • Check that Minecraft is signed in with the same Microsoft account used to redeem the code or make the purchase.
  • If you purchased Minecoins on Minecraft.net while Minecraft was already open, Minecraft says signing out and restarting the game may refresh the displayed balance. Its guidance is in the Minecraft FAQ.
