To unlock double jump in The Outer Worlds 2, travel to Spire Grove on Paradise Island and loot Jackson Plum’s corpse for the Plasma Thruster Boots, also called P.A.L.E. Start the route by speaking with Huell Chaudry in Fairfield. Once equipped, press the jump button again while airborne.
Start the Spire Grove quest in Fairfield
Speak with Huell Chaudry in Fairfield to begin Perilous Journey to the Grove. The quest directs you to meet Jackson Plum in Spire Grove. The double-jump unlock is tied to this location and item, not a skill-tree purchase. Game8’s walkthrough covers the quest start and route.
Choose a route to Spire Grove
Head southwest from Fairfield toward the mountain and cargo lift. The lift provides one route, but it requires Engineering 3 to repair. If you do not have that skill level, follow the cliffside slope instead.
| Route | Requirement | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Cargo lift | Engineering 3 | Repair the nearby lift to travel toward the grove, as described in GameSpot’s guide. |
| Cliffside slope | No Engineering requirement stated | If the lift is unavailable, turn right and follow the slope along the cliffside, according to Game8. |
Loot Jackson Plum to get the boots
Approach the tower at Sovereign’s Sweet Spire Grove. Jackson Plum falls there; inspect and loot his corpse to obtain the Plasma Thruster Boots (P.A.L.E.) and quest schematics. The related quest A Final Death for Gravity continues into objectives involving the tower’s control room, but those objectives are not required to pick up the boots.

Use double jump—and know its limit
After unlocking the ability, press the jump button again while your character is airborne to trigger the second jump. It does not stop a fall once you have reached critical velocity, so it is not a way to cancel a dangerous fall at the last moment. Game8’s walkthrough notes this limitation.
If you left Spire Grove without looting the corpse
Obsidian’s Patch 1.2.0.0 notes say: “The double jump boots and quest schematics are now automatically granted to the player if they leave Spire Grove without looting Jackson Plum’s corpse.” If you missed the body, check your inventory and quest state after leaving the area.
