How to Reach Level 70 and Get Item Power 800 Gear in Diablo 4

Diablo 4’s level cap is 70 in Season of Reckoning. For Item Power 800 gear under the cited rules, target Ancestral drops in Torment 1.

As of Season of Reckoning, Diablo 4’s level cap is 70 for all players. For Item Power 800 gear, the cited item rules point to Ancestral drops in Torment 1: Ancestral items drop at Item Power 800, while non-Ancestral items are capped at 750. Reaching level 70 is only one milestone; difficulty progression and endgame rewards continue beyond it.

What is the max level in Diablo 4?

The character level cap is 70 under Season of Reckoning. Blizzard announced that the increase applies to all Diablo IV players. After level 70, progression continues through endgame activities and Paragon points rather than additional character levels.

How to level toward 70

Choose your starting point

If you have completed the campaign, you can use the endgame starting option described in Blizzard’s guide to access endgame content and choose how to level a new character. The guide also says the campaign skip is available to previously created characters. Eligibility for the Story Complete option is tied to completing the Lord of Hatred campaign, so do not assume every player must own or finish that expansion simply to level a character.

Advance through difficulty tiers

Season of Reckoning expands Torment from four tiers to twelve. Blizzard describes higher difficulty as offering larger gold and experience bonuses and improved drop rates. Move up as your character can handle the added challenge; the available official guidance does not establish one universally fastest activity rotation or a guaranteed number of hours to reach level 70.

Use seasonal objectives for additional progression

Season Rank provides objectives and rewards alongside ordinary leveling. Blizzard’s Season of Reckoning guide lists rewards of up to 12 Skill Points and up to 42 Paragon points. These are seasonal objective rewards, not a fixed reward for simply reaching level 70.

How to get Item Power 800 gear

Under Blizzard’s cited itemization rules, Ancestral items begin dropping in Torment 1 and always have Item Power 800. Non-Ancestral items are capped at 750. So, for the stated Item Power 800 target, progress to Torment 1 and look for Ancestral drops.

  • LORD OF HATRED EXPANSION — Includes Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred Standard Edition and Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred. The Diablo IV base game is required to play.
  • IN-GAME EXTRAS — Get 1 Extra Stash Tab, 2 Additional Character Slots, and 3 Decor Items in World of Warcraft.
  • NEW CLASSES AND REGION — Master two new classes and explore the ancient region of Skovos in the Lord of Hatred expansion.
  • ACTION RPG ADVENTURE — Slay demons, master abilities, explore nightmarish dungeons, and find legendary loot in a dark open world.
  • NEW CAMPAIGN AGAINST MEPHISTO — Make your stand against the Prime Evil Mephisto in a rich new story featuring new enemies, regions, and narrative twists.

Item Power is not the only measure of an upgrade. An item’s category and affixes matter too, so an 800 item is not automatically the best choice for every build or slot. The Item Power figures come from Blizzard’s Season of Hatred Rising item rules; a later itemization update was announced for Season 11, so check the live client’s current item rules before treating those figures as unchanged.

What changes after level 70?

Level 70 is the character-level ceiling, not the end of progression. You can continue advancing difficulty, pursuing gear, and earning Paragon progression. Keep your goal in view: character levels, Paragon points, seasonal rewards, and equipment upgrades are distinct forms of progress, and the most useful activity depends on which one you need.

Season 11 changes: announced, not current Season of Reckoning guidance

Blizzard’s Season 11 systems overview announced Capstone Dungeons, Season Rank progression gates, and changes to Tempering and Masterworking. It lists suggested Capstone levels of 30, 50, and 60, and says dungeon difficulty does not scale with your current character level. These are announced future-season mechanics relative to Season of Reckoning; do not use them as instructions for the current season unless the update has gone live and the live game confirms them.

Which route should you choose?

  • Campaign not complete: Continue through the campaign or use an available character progression route; the reviewed official guidance does not rank activities by leveling speed.
  • Campaign complete: Check whether the Story Complete option is available to your character, then choose an endgame leveling route.
  • Seeking Item Power 800: Work toward Torment 1 and target Ancestral drops, while evaluating affixes and build fit.
  • Seeking more post-cap progress: Focus on Paragon progression, Season Rank objectives, or gear and difficulty goals as appropriate.
