You generally can’t rely on connecting an Xbox 360 controller directly to an Xbox One. Brook documents a third-party adapter—the Xbox 360/Xbox One to Xbox One Super Converter—as a way to use a compatible Xbox 360 gamepad. Check Brook’s compatibility list for your exact controller before buying: support is model-specific, and each converter handles one controller at a time.
Can you connect an Xbox 360 controller directly to an Xbox One?
Direct connection is not established by the accessible Xbox Support material on controller connections. The documented workaround in the sources available is a third-party converter from Brook, rather than a Microsoft adapter or a built-in connection method. Brook’s product page says its Xbox 360/Xbox One to Xbox One Super Converter recognizes Xbox 360 gamepads for use with Xbox One.

How to use an Xbox 360 controller with the Brook converter
- Check compatibility first. Find your exact controller on Brook’s compatibility list. Brook says an unlisted device may be incompatible or simply not tested yet.
- Get the correct converter. The relevant product is Brook’s Xbox 360/Xbox One to Xbox One Super Converter, intended to make Xbox 360 gamepads usable with Xbox One.
- Connect the converter and controller according to its product instructions. The product page identifies the adapter’s purpose, but the accessible source material does not establish a complete step-by-step connection sequence.
- Use one converter for one controller. Brook states that each adapter handles one controller at a time.
Do not confuse Brook’s converter with Wingman XB 2 or XB 3
Brook’s products have different console targets, so the generation matters:

Should you use an adapter or get an Xbox One controller?
The adapter is worth considering if keeping a particular Xbox 360 controller matters to you and Brook lists that exact model as compatible. A controller designed for Xbox One avoids adding a converter, but the available sources do not establish current prices or availability for either option.

- Choose the converter if your specific controller is listed and you are comfortable using a separate adapter.
- Choose an Xbox One controller if you prefer a controller made for the console or do not want to check adapter compatibility.
What if your Xbox 360 controller is not listed?
Brook says an unlisted controller may be incompatible or may not have been tested. Treat compatibility as unconfirmed rather than assuming that a similar-looking model will work. Check Brook’s list or choose a controller designed for Xbox One instead.
