These are separate features: choose Home Xbox for eligible game-license sharing, a Cloud Gaming invite link to join a supported session, or Remote Play to stream your console to your own device.
Which kind of Xbox sharing do you mean?

How to share eligible digital games with Home Xbox
Home Xbox sharing is the closest match if you want another person using a specific console to access eligible digital games bought by your account. Microsoft’s digital-goods usage rules describe two licenses for Store games: a device-based license associated with the designated Home Xbox and a user-based license the purchaser can use on another console while signed in.
- On the Xbox the other person will use, sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the digital games.
- Open the console’s personalization settings and designate that Xbox as the account’s Home Xbox. Menu labels can vary by console software version.
- After the setting is applied, other users on that Home Xbox can access content covered by its device license. The purchaser can use their user license on another console by signing in there.
Limits to know
- Microsoft allows up to five Home Xbox changes during a rolling one-year period.
- A game can be played on only one console at a time under the cited rules. The Home Xbox can still be used while another user is playing on the roaming console.
- Some add-ons and other downloadable content may be limited to personal use. Subscription benefits and account-specific features depend on the applicable plan and content terms; do not assume every Game Pass entitlement is shared.
How to invite a friend to an Xbox Cloud Gaming session
Xbox’s February 25, 2025 announcement describes invite links for multiplayer sessions played through Xbox Cloud Gaming. This is for joining a session, not sharing your installed game library. The announcement specified that the inviter must have Game Pass Ultimate and use a supported browser or TV; invited players need an Xbox profile and Game Pass Ultimate. Availability and supported devices may change, so check Xbox’s current guidance.
- While playing a multiplayer game through Xbox Cloud Gaming, open the game’s invite menu from the Xbox Guide or the game itself.
- Choose the Anyone tab, copy the invitation link, and send it to your friend.
- On a browser or mobile device, open the link, sign in, and select Play with Ultimate.
- To join on a TV, open the link on a PC or mobile device and choose Join on a different device to get a code. Enter that code through the Xbox Guide on the TV.
The feature and steps above were described in the Xbox February 2025 update; the exact game, device support, and current availability can affect whether the option appears.

How to use Remote Play from your own Xbox
Remote Play streams a game running on your Xbox to a Windows PC or mobile client. It is different from Cloud Gaming, where the game is streamed from Xbox’s cloud, and it does not give a friend a license or let them take over your game. Microsoft’s game-streaming overview explains the distinction.
For Xbox One, Microsoft’s support instructions give this path: Settings > Devices & streaming > Device connections > Allow game streaming to other devices. The support page also describes allowing connections from any device on the home network or limiting connections to profiles signed in on that Xbox. These menu instructions are for Xbox One; consult the support guidance for your console generation for current setup steps.

If the other person needs an independent entitlement, gifting an eligible digital game, add-on, or subscription avoids relying on Home Xbox device licensing. Xbox’s December 5, 2025 guidance says the recipient should be in the same country as the purchaser.
