The Imbaru Engine has three tests—Cunning, Strength, and Navigation—before its final Truth and Lies puzzle. For Cunning, open the chest marked with the X-shaped Hive rune. For Strength, follow the arrow plates and skip one target after each Cursed Thrall. For Navigation, match both the rune’s elemental type and its position on the doorway. In the final test, count the burger-like rune as 1 while facing the pedestal, then activate 1, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, and 13.
These are Season of the Witch solutions from 2023. Bungie’s official pages do not establish whether the Imbaru Engine is playable now, so check the in-game activity access before following the route.

Unlock the tests and reach the Imbaru Engine
The puzzle sequence is tied to Season of the Witch activities and Minor Arcana cards activated at the Lectern of Divination. Shacknews’ Imbaru Engine guide describes the cards and routes for each test.
- Strength: Find its card beside a portal in the final room of Savathûn’s Spire, then activate it at the Lectern.
- Navigation: Find its card in Altars of Summoning and activate it at the Lectern. Follow the Imbaru Engine route to the test room.
- Truth and Lies: Unlock the Parting Gift card and complete Cunning, Strength, and Navigation. You must also collect three flames—one each from the Imbaru Engine, Savathûn’s Spire, and Altars of Summoning—and rekindle the braziers.
Gift of Cunning: open the X-rune chests
At each stage, use the plates’ directions to identify the chest marked with the X-shaped Hive rune. The first stage has one correct chest, the next has two, and the final stage has three. Do not choose the other rune: opening a wrong-symbol chest kills you and resets the chest encounter.

A Ghost mod that tracks chests can help locate them, but it is optional. The puzzle’s identifying mark is the X-shaped rune.
Gift of Strength: follow the plates, with one key exception
- Activate the test and interact with Deepsight to reveal the first target.
- Follow the arrow plates through the enemy sequence.
- After killing a Knight, kill the next indicated target.
- After killing a Cursed Thrall, skip one target and kill the target after it.
Wrong kills trigger Shriekers and reset the rooms. A September 2023 Bungie forum discussion of the second test also describes the Cursed Thrall skip; use the plates and that exception to avoid disrupting the route.

Gift of Navigation: match element and position
Every doorway gives you two clues: the rune’s elemental type and where it appears on the door. Match both clues to a portal frame, shoot its rune with a weapon of the corresponding element, then enter that portal.
- Element: Identify the doorway rune’s damage type and use a matching elemental weapon.
- Position: Choose the portal whose rune occupies the same position on its frame. Matching the element alone is not enough.
Some runes are obscured by other symbols or are easier to see from a ledge or another angle. Hard Light can switch damage types, but it is only one possible weapon—not a required item.

Test of Truth and Lies: collect clues, then enter the seven runes
Inspect the statue clues
Once the Parting Gift prerequisites and three flames are complete, begin the final puzzle. Use the Truth and Lies buffs to inspect statue clues in the main puzzle room and in the three earlier test rooms. The clues are part of this final stage; the solution below gives the rune sequence to submit.
Set the orientation and activate the answer
- Face the pedestal and count the burger-like symbol as rune 1. Keep that orientation and numbering convention while identifying the runes.
- Activate runes 1, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, and 13.
- Submit the tribute. A correct answer opens the way to the Witch Queen’s Heirloom, which Shacknews describes as an Ahamkara egg.

Does the Imbaru Engine still work in Destiny 2?
Bungie lists Season of the Witch as starting August 22 and ending November 28 at weekly reset in its 2023 season information; those dates are historical, not an upcoming schedule. Bungie’s Destiny Content Vault policy says seasonal content remains through the current expansion and then moves to the Vault when a new expansion launches. The official pages do not confirm whether this activity is accessible on October 8, 2026, so verify its availability in-game rather than assuming it is live or vaulted.
