Java Edition: check the F3 debug screen
- Open the world or server you want to check.
- Press F3 to open the debug screen.
- Look for the day value among the displayed information. It represents the number of whole in-game days the player has been in the world, according to the Minecraft Wiki’s debug screen reference.
The available fields can differ by version. Mojang’s Java Snapshot 25w31a notes say the debug screen is accessible with F3 and describe F3 + F5 as opening Debug Options, where information items can be hidden, shown while F3 is open, or always shown. Those options are specific to the snapshot documentation; check the controls and options in your installed version if the day value is not visible.
If the day value is missing
Check your game version and whether you are playing multiplayer. A player report dated December 28, 2023 described the day field missing from the F3 screen on multiplayer Java servers after version 1.20.2; it is an anecdotal report, not a general compatibility rule. See the Minecraft Feedback post.
Bedrock Edition: turn on the days-played overlay
- Open the settings for the world whose count you want to see.
- Find and enable Show days played.
- Return to the world and check the HUD for the days-played overlay.
Mojang documents this world setting and HUD overlay in its Bedrock 1.21 release notes. If the overlay is absent, revisit that world’s settings and check that the option is enabled.

Hardcore worlds in Bedrock 26.10
The Bedrock 26.10 changelog additionally says that days played appear on the Play screen for Hardcore worlds when the Show days played gamerule is enabled. This is a Play-screen detail for Hardcore worlds, separate from the general in-world HUD setting.

Not automatically, based on the documented commands. Microsoft’s scoreboard tutorial shows how to create and display custom objectives, but it does not describe a built-in objective that tracks days played. Its example requires cheats to be enabled. The Bedrock command reference describes /scoreboard for tracking and displaying objective scores and /time for querying or changing world game time; it does not establish that /time returns the same count as the days-played display.
