Steam’s user reviews were Mixed when accessed on October 8, 2026, with 69% positive from 837 reviews. The game is most appealing if you want a layered combat puzzle; players seeking a quicker, more immediately rewarding run may need to adjust expectations—or try its shorter Tight Mode.
What the reviews say
Steam’s store page showed Mixed user reviews on October 8, 2026: 69% of 837 user reviews were positive. That is a dated snapshot of Steam users’ ratings, not a professional-review score, and both the review count and percentage can change.
PC Gamer’s Rick Lane characterizes the game as a richer follow-up to Fights in Tight Spaces, while judging that it takes longer to reveal its strengths and has less immediate appeal than its predecessor. That is one publication’s editorial view, not a consensus. Steam’s review section also displays publication-attributed praise from VICE for its blend of tactical strategy and roguelike deckbuilding, and from Game Rant for adding a distinctive layer to a proven formula. Those are outlet attributions; Steam does not identify individual speakers for those displayed lines.
How the tactical deckbuilding works
Positioning is part of every card decision
This is not simply a matter of playing the highest-value card in your hand. You move characters around enemies and obstacles, and the space between units shapes what actions are useful. The official site highlights careful positioning alongside momentum and combo points, resources used for special moves. A strong turn therefore depends on how card effects, movement, and the fight’s layout work together.

Build a party, not just a deck
Recruitment adds another layer to the puzzle. Classes, character abilities, team-up moves, equipment, and upgrades can all influence how a run develops, so the value of a card or move depends partly on who is in the party and how the team is built. Steam advertises 300 cards, along with classes, equipment, upgrades, Daily Play, and Endless mode. Those are official feature descriptions and a card count, not independent evidence that every combination is equally deep or balanced.
Fights are presented as action scenes
Ground Shatter developed Knights in Tight Spaces, and Raw Fury published it. The game sets its turn-based tactical combat in a medieval-fantasy setting and presents fights through stylized, action-movie-like sequences. The animations give the spatial tactics a strong visual identity, but the core appeal remains planning turns and coordinating the party rather than simply watching combat unfold.

Run length and the shorter mode
The denser party and deck decisions may suit players who enjoy taking time to develop a strategy, but can make the game feel less immediately gratifying than a more direct deckbuilder. On June 24, 2025, an official update introduced Tight Mode, described as a shorter alternative story mode with shortened quests and a final stronghold. That gives players who are wary of longer runs a shorter route through the story, rather than requiring them to approach every run in the same way.
The official Steam news archive also lists Patch 1.0.10, dated October 17, 2025. Its notes include fixes for save data and Endless Mode loading, as well as a Unity version update. The archive entries establish what those dated updates included; they do not establish which build is currently latest.

How it relates to Fights in Tight Spaces
Knights in Tight Spaces is a standalone game in the same universe as Fights in Tight Spaces, shifting the action from modern combat to medieval fantasy. You do not need to own the earlier game to play it. The two share a tactical, card-driven foundation, but the party and team-synergy emphasis gives Knights its own angle. PC Gamer’s view that this follow-up takes longer to show its strengths is useful context if you are deciding between the two, but it should be read as that reviewer’s judgment rather than an objective measure.
