Yes. VALORANT is free to play on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S where it is available. You need a Riot Account, but you do not need to buy the game or pay for a console online subscription to play. Optional purchases are digital extras, not an entry fee.
Is VALORANT free to play on PC and consoles?
Riot lists VALORANT as free to play on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A Riot Account is required to log in. Console availability depends on region, so check Riot’s platform page and local availability rather than assuming the game is offered everywhere.

Do you need PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass?
No. Riot says neither PlayStation Plus nor Xbox Game Pass is required to play VALORANT on console. Subscribers may receive benefits, but a subscription is not a condition of access. See Riot’s console FAQ.
Does VALORANT have in-game purchases?
Yes, but they are optional. Riot sells VALORANT Points, a premium currency purchased with real money in the game client and used for digital content such as weapon skins. The Battlepass includes a free path and a paid path; paid rewards are additional content, not a requirement to play.

Riot’s 2020 launch-era explanation described the Premium Battlepass as offering more rewards and said it was not pay to win. That statement explains the intended design of the launch Battlepass; it is not a current price or a guarantee about particular offers. Current prices and progression details are not established here, so check the live client for those details. Riot’s explanations of the Battlepass and VALORANT Points describe the systems.
Can PC and console players play together?
Console players can match with players on the other console platform, but console-to-PC cross-play is not supported. Riot says account progression and inventory carry between PC and console, so earned or owned content can follow the account across those platforms. Console launch regions have expanded over time; Riot’s regional availability updates include the September 2026 Australia and New Zealand announcement.

Which platform should you choose?
- Choose PC if you already have a supported computer or your friends play on PC.
- Choose console if you own a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S and the game is available in your region.
- Check where your friends play: console and PC players cannot join the same cross-play matches.
You do not need to buy both versions to begin, and no paid edition is required. Pick the supported platform you have access to, create or use a Riot Account, and download the game through its official platform listing.
