What is Like a Dragon: Yakuza?
Like a Dragon: Yakuza is a Japanese crime, suspense and action series built around an original story based on Sega’s game franchise. It follows Kazuma Kiryu in Kamurocho, the fictional entertainment district familiar to players of the games. The official franchise page presents it as an original-script story, so it should not be described as a direct adaptation of one specific game.

The Prime Video official trailer description frames the drama around family beyond blood ties, including relationships between yakuza bosses and their underlings, orphans and caretakers, and mentors and students. That description positions the criminal conflict alongside the personal bonds at the center of the story.

Official materials describe an original story based on the franchise, not a scene-by-scene adaptation of a named game. The setting and Kiryu connect it to the broader series, but the available official synopsis does not identify one game as the show’s source.

Viewers who want to explore the games can treat a franchise title such as Yakuza: Kiwami as an optional next step, not as the series’ exact source. Sega included Yakuza: Kiwami in franchise activity around the series launch, but that does not establish it as a direct tie-in.
