Yes. Blizzard’s public Diablo IV Open Beta weekend, March 24–26, 2023, was free to join; you did not need to buy the game. That limited-time event has ended, so the original beta is no longer available.
Who could play each Diablo IV beta weekend?
| Weekend | Who could enter | Dates | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Early Access | Players who had pre-purchased Diablo IV | March 17–19, 2023 | Concluded |
| Public Open Beta | Everyone; buying the game was not required | March 24–26, 2023 | Concluded |
Blizzard’s Open Beta guide described the public weekend as available “to everyone.” Pre-purchasing was the requirement for the earlier Early Access window, not for the public beta.

What was included in the free beta?
The 2023 beta let players try the Prologue and all of Act 1 in the Fractured Peaks. Characters could reach level 25. It was a limited preview, not the full game.
Blizzard warned that the test build was unfinished and could have performance problems, outages, or features that did not work. Those details refer to the 2023 event, not a current playable beta.

Is the Diablo IV Open Beta still available?
No. Both beta weekends concluded in March 2023. Buying Diablo IV now does not restore access to that closed event. Blizzard’s launch guide separately noted that the full game launched beginning June 5, 2023 PDT, with Digital Deluxe and Ultimate edition access beginning June 1 PDT.

Blizzard said Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus was not required in most regions. Germany was an exception: PlayStation Plus was required there due to ratings requirements. The guide also listed 64-bit Windows 10 and 45 GB of available SSD storage in both its minimum and recommended PC configurations; these are beta-era specifications, not current full-game requirements.
