That target year has passed. As of October 8, 2026, the sources available for this article do not confirm that the remaster has launched, been delayed, or been canceled, and they do not establish an English-language or international release.
What EasyGameStation announced
On December 30, 2024, EasyGameStation announced Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale HD Edition, a remastered version of the original game. Contemporary reports described a PC release planned for Japan in 2025, but gave no specific launch date. The announcement did not establish how extensively the visuals or gameplay would change. Gematsu reported the announcement, as did PC Gamer.
PC Gamer said the news came during the second day of Tokyo’s Comiket and that the developer had been working on the project for some time. Andrew Dice, founder of translator-publisher Carpe Fulgur, wrote in the 2024 announcement: “In 2025… prepare to re-open the item shop.” That was a teaser for the original target year, not a new release update.
Is Recettear HD Edition out, or is there a new date?
The 2025 plan is no longer a future release window. The available sources do not verify whether the HD Edition has since been released, delayed, or canceled. They also do not confirm a revised date, an English-language release, or a launch outside Japan. The original game still has a Steam store listing, but that listing is for the original game and does not by itself confirm the status of the HD Edition.

A Steam Community search result refers to developer social posts in 2026, but the posts could not be independently verified. It is not enough to establish a remaster release date or language plan. Until EasyGameStation or a current HD Edition store page confirms those details, treat the remaster’s status as unresolved rather than assuming it is coming soon or has been canceled.
What kind of game is Recettear?
The original Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale combines shop management with action-RPG dungeon exploration. Recette Lemongrass has to run the item shop in her home to repay a loan left by her father. Players acquire stock by buying goods in town or venturing into dungeons with adventurers, then set prices and arrange the shop while pursuing the repayment goal. The result is not just a shop simulator: sourcing items and surviving expeditions are part of the same business loop.

The 2024 announcement established a PC plan for Japan, but not a confirmed release date or a detailed list of changes. It did not clarify the extent of any visual overhaul, whether gameplay would be adjusted, which languages would be included, or whether owners of the original game would receive an upgrade. Those details should not be inferred from the word “HD” alone.
