Unlock any two different Pyre Hearts to open the Dimensional Portal, then use it to enter Dimensional Challenges. A May 23, 2025 Destructoid guide reports this requirement and highlights three ways to earn the hearts: take 475 total Pyre damage, move units 275 times, or win nine battles with trials enabled. These thresholds are guide-reported and may change with game updates.
How to unlock the Dimensional Portal
- Check your Pyre Heart unlock conditions. The Destructoid guide reports that Monster Train 2 has 13 Pyre Hearts and that unlocking any two different hearts opens the portal. You do not need to complete all 13.
- Choose two conditions that suit your run. The guide highlights the following options:

These conditions come from Arka Sarkar’s May 23, 2025 Destructoid guide, not a published developer specification. The guide does not provide measured completion times, so pick based on the runs and cards you prefer rather than assuming one route is always fastest.
- Unlock a second, different Pyre Heart. Once the second heart is earned, the guide says a cutscene plays and the Dimensional Portal becomes available.
- Enter the portal. Use the Dimensional Portal to access Dimensional Challenges.
Why is the Dimensional Portal still locked?
Check whether you have actually unlocked two different Pyre Hearts. Progress toward a heart’s condition is not the same as unlocking it; finish the relevant condition and confirm the heart has been earned before expecting the portal to open. The guide says the portal appears after the second unlock. If you have met that requirement and it remains unavailable, the available sources do not establish a separate cause or fix.
The exact thresholds above are reported by a guide last updated May 23, 2025. Shiny Shoe’s official Monster Train 2 page confirms that Dimensional Challenges exist, but does not publish the Pyre Heart prerequisite. A later patch may change progression, so treat the guide’s numbers as reported conditions rather than a developer guarantee.

What Dimensional Challenges include
Shiny Shoe describes the mode as offering “handcrafted challenges, new Mutators, and unique cosmetic rewards to be earned as you complete them.” Nintendo’s official store description likewise presents handcrafted challenges, Mutators, and cosmetic rewards.
On November 5, 2025, a Shiny Shoe update announcement said it added a second page of 22 runs and 54 new Mutators. Those are additions in that update, not a verified current total for the full mode. The announcement is available at Shiny Shoe’s Steam news page; check current patch information in-game if you need an up-to-date total.
