What are Motes in Soulframe?
The term “Motes” can refer to different things in Soulframe material, so context matters. The detailed current player-guide information concerns History Motes, which reveal map names and lore. An older Fandom search-result excerpt describes another kind of Mote that can be bound into weapons and Pacts, but that page could not be opened and its current relevance is unverified.

What does a History Mote do?
According to the Soulframe Guide, collecting a History Mote permanently labels its region on the map and adds a short lore entry to the codex. These are separate rewards: the map label helps identify the area, while the codex entry provides its lore context.

- Hold Spectral Sight. Sweep the area while it is active to search for a Mote.
- Deal with nearby enemies first. The guide warns that Motes may vanish during combat, so approaching after clearing threats can prevent an interruption.
- Watch your Sparrow. A Sparrow circling or hovering can point you toward a Mote.
- Recheck on another in-game day if needed. The guide reports one Mote per area per in-game day, with another becoming available after the daily reset.
The guide does not provide a fixed, community-verified coordinate list for spawn points. Treat the Sparrow and Spectral Sight as search clues rather than expecting a guaranteed location.
Are these mechanics current in Preludes 16?
Digital Extremes lists Soulframe Preludes 16: Of Hook and Hound as posted on 2026-09-18. The official update page highlights additions including fishing, wolf-pup bonding, dynamic weather, and weapon Tempers, but does not document History Mote rules. The guide’s specific search and reset details were verified through Preludes 15, so their status in Preludes 16 is not established here.

Digital Extremes describes Preludes as Soulframe’s early, evolving pre-alpha phase on its official site. Because the game is still changing, rely on current in-game behavior if it differs from the guide’s Preludes 15 instructions.
