Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord – War Sails is a released single-player expansion that brings naval travel and combat to TaleWorlds’ medieval sandbox. It adds commandable ships and fleets, sea battles, maritime conquest, and the Nords—a Viking-inspired faction—in new northern territories. TaleWorlds first announced it in March 2025; after changing its original schedule, the studio released it on November 26, 2025.
What is War Sails?
War Sails is an expansion for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, not a separate game. TaleWorlds describes it as a single-player expansion and presents naval warfare as its central addition. The official War Sails page describes commanding ships, fighting sea battles, and pursuing maritime conquest.
The expansion extends Bannerlord’s fictional setting of Calradia with northern territories and the Nords, a faction TaleWorlds describes as Viking-inspired. “Vikings” is a useful shorthand for the inspiration, but the in-game faction is called the Nords; this is not a depiction of historical Vikings.
What does the expansion add?
Ships, fleets, and naval battles
The announced feature set lets players command ships and fleets, travel by sea, and fight naval battles. The launch description also highlights fleet customization and naval progression, giving the maritime systems their own development path alongside Bannerlord’s land-based play.

Naval warfare is tied to the campaign world, not presented only as a separate battle mode. TaleWorlds’ launch description includes coastal settlement conquest, while the announcement introduced expanded northern territories associated with the Nords.
Ongoing feature changes
Subsequent official patch notes have included expansion-specific changes such as improved long-distance naval travel and Seaborne Village Raids. TaleWorlds distinguishes War Sails changes from base-game changes in those notes, so players can use the patch listings to identify which features require the expansion.
When did War Sails release?
The release schedule changed after the initial announcement. The announcement trailer description first gave June 17, 2025; TaleWorlds later moved the planned window to early fall. An October gameplay showcase then set November 26, 2025 as the date, and the later launch notice confirmed that the expansion had arrived.

Which platforms and price were announced?
The October gameplay showcase listed PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It announced a price of $24.99 USD or €24.99.
