Minecraft 1.19, The Wild Update, launched on June 7, 2022. Mojang’s announcement did not specify a release hour or time zone, so there is no official “release time” to give. If you own Minecraft, you do not need to buy a separate Wild Update download: update the game through the Launcher or your platform’s store and update controls.
When did Minecraft 1.19 release?
Mojang announced that The Wild Update would arrive on June 7, 2022. Its announcement named Java Edition on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and Bedrock Edition on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, and Windows. The announcement gives the date, but not a clock time or time zone. Mojang’s announcement was published May 26, 2022.
How to update Minecraft to The Wild Update
The Wild Update is part of Minecraft, not a separate purchase for players who already own the game. Java Edition uses the Minecraft Launcher to select and download a game version; Bedrock Edition updates through the store or update controls for the device. For current platform-specific steps, see Minecraft’s official update instructions.
Java Edition on PC or Mac
- Open the Minecraft Launcher.
- Check that the selected installation is the latest release. If it is not, open the version arrow beside Play and select “Latest Release.”
- Let the Launcher download the selected release, then start the game.
Bedrock Edition on mobile
- iPhone or iPad: Open the App Store, find Minecraft, and install the offered update if one is available.
- Android: Open Google Play, find Minecraft, and install the offered update if one is available.
Bedrock Edition on consoles and Windows
- Xbox: Open My Apps & Games, select Minecraft, then choose Manage game & add-ons and Updates.
- PlayStation 4: Automatic updates are supported. If they are disabled, select Minecraft, open its options, and check for an update. The official instructions specify PS4 steps and do not establish separate PS5 directions.
- Nintendo Switch: Follow the game’s update prompt or check the eShop as directed by the official instructions. Switch players may see the Bedrock release labeled 1.19.1 rather than 1.19.0; Mojang’s Bedrock changelog notes this platform-specific version label.
- Windows Bedrock: Open Microsoft Store, select Library, then choose Get Updates.
Fire TV
Minecraft’s official instructions provide a store-search route and an update option in the game menu for Fire TV. Follow the current on-screen prompts, since store and menu flows can change.

What came with The Wild Update?
The launch announcement introduced the deep dark and mangrove swamp biomes, along with frogs, tadpoles, and allays. The Bedrock 1.19.0 changelog also highlights the warden, new music, boats with chests, the goat horn, and Music Disc 5. - For Java Edition, check the Launcher’s version selector and choose “Latest Release.”
- For Bedrock, check the relevant platform store or update menu rather than downloading an installer from an unofficial site.
- On Nintendo Switch, the game may show version 1.19.1 for this release; the different label does not mean the update is unrelated.
- If you are moving from the legacy Nintendo Switch Edition, follow the current official instructions instead of relying on a historical update prompt.
Mojang’s download page includes a purchase option for the PC game, but that is for Minecraft itself—not a separate charge for The Wild Update.
