You can spend them on eligible Marketplace content such as skins, texture packs, adventure maps, worlds and mash-up packs—not on general purchases or as cash. Buy them through Bedrock Marketplace or Minecraft.net, or use a prepaid code where available. The balance is associated with the Microsoft account used for the purchase.
What are Minecoins?
Minecoins are virtual currency used to buy content in Minecraft Marketplace. Marketplace offerings include skins, texture packs, adventure maps, worlds and mash-up packs. They are not money you can spend outside Minecraft, and they are not a universal currency for every edition.
Minecraft identifies Minecoins with Bedrock Edition. The listed compatible platforms are Windows, Xbox, Nintendo, Android, iOS, Chromebook and Amazon Fire. Marketplace is a Bedrock service; do not assume Minecoins can be used in Java Edition. See Minecraft’s Minecoins page and its Parents’ Guide for the edition distinction.
How to buy Minecoins
You need a Microsoft account to buy Minecoins through Minecraft.net or Bedrock Marketplace. In-game purchases are completed through the platform’s store checkout. Package denominations and prices can vary by region and storefront, so check the live options shown for your account before confirming.

How to redeem a Minecoins prepaid code
A retailer prepaid card can be an option if you would rather not use a saved credit card. Minecraft’s redeem page directs users with a 25-digit code to redeem through a Microsoft account or the Minecraft redeem page. After following the prompts, launch Bedrock Edition with the same Microsoft account and check the Marketplace balance. The redeem page directs 10-digit codes to a separate Xbox redemption site.
- Check the card or code for its region, platform and code length.
- For a 25-digit code, visit Minecraft’s code redemption page or follow its Microsoft account redemption instructions, then enter the code and complete the prompts.
- Open Minecraft: Bedrock Edition and sign in with the Microsoft account used to redeem it.
- Open Marketplace and confirm the balance before making a purchase.
Which account gets the balance, and where can you use it?
Use the same Microsoft account for the purchase or redemption and for signing in to Bedrock. Console players can link their device account to a Microsoft account; Minecraft says this can make Minecoins and non-exclusive purchases available across devices running Bedrock. That qualification matters: the guidance does not promise that every Marketplace purchase transfers to every device.

Minecoins or Marketplace Pass?
Minecoins are a one-time currency purchase you spend on Marketplace items. Marketplace Pass is a separate subscription for access to a changing content library; Minecraft’s page currently advertises 30 days free, then $3.99 per month, with content such as worlds, add-ons, skins and texture packs. That offer is not an indication that Minecoins are included. Availability, price and terms can change, so check the offer shown at checkout.

| Option | How it works | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Minecoins | Buy currency once, then spend it on eligible Marketplace content. | You want to choose individual items and keep the purchase tied to your account. |
| Marketplace Pass | A separate monthly subscription to a changing selection of Marketplace content; Minecraft’s page currently shows 30 days free, then $3.99/month. | You prefer access to the subscription library rather than purchasing Minecoins for individual items. Check current local terms and price before subscribing. |
Can you get a refund for Minecoins?
Minecraft says Minecoin purchases are final and generally cannot be refunded. Its stated exception is an unauthorized Minecoins purchase made on Minecraft.net: contact Microsoft Support about that case. This is different from changing your mind about a purchase; the exception does not establish a general refund right.

Before buying or redeeming a code, confirm which Microsoft account the player uses in Bedrock. The balance follows that account, so choosing the recipient’s account at checkout or redemption avoids putting the currency on the wrong profile. A prepaid card may suit a gift or a buyer who does not want to use a saved card, but check the card’s regional and platform terms.
