Microsoft’s latest official Minecraft audience figure is 155 million monthly active users, announced in October 2025—not a confirmed 2026 count. It also does not say how many people are playing simultaneously. A separate report says Minecraft had sold more than 425 million copies by September 2026, but sales are not the same as active players.
How many people play Minecraft?
The latest official monthly-active figure located is 155 million. Microsoft described that as an all-time high in its FY2026 Q1 earnings-call presentation in October 2025: “Reaching 155 million monthly active users of Minecraft, an all time high.” Microsoft’s FY2026 Q1 earnings-call page does not provide a detailed counting methodology in that statement.
That is the best-supported answer to how many people play Minecraft, but it is a dated monthly-active measure. It is not a confirmed figure for a particular month in 2026, and “monthly active users” should not be read as a count of unique humans unless Microsoft defines it that way.
Is 155 million Minecraft’s 2026 player count?
No. The 155 million figure was stated in October 2025. It is the latest official monthly-active number identified here, not a live total or a verified 2026 monthly count. Microsoft’s public statement does not establish how the audience has changed since then.

Microsoft and Xbox figures that describe different things cannot fill that gap. Xbox said in April 2026 that its platform had more than 500 million players; that is Xbox-wide reach, not Minecraft’s audience. The same leadership message said daily active players would be Xbox’s “north star,” describing company strategy rather than a Minecraft statistic. Xbox’s April 2026 message
Monthly active users, concurrent players and copies sold are different measures
| Measure | What it tells you | Minecraft figure and date |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly active users | Users active over a month, according to the publisher’s method; the quoted statement does not explain that method. | 155 million, stated by Microsoft in October 2025 as an all-time high. Microsoft |
| Concurrent players | Users playing at the same time. | No official Minecraft concurrent-player count was identified. |
| Cumulative copies sold | Total copies sold over time, not the number of current players. | More than 425 million, attributed to Xbox chief Asha Sharma at Minecraft Live on September 26, 2026, in a report published October 6, 2026. Priori Data’s report |
| New players per day | A reported flow of newly joining players, not everyone active that day or month. | About 300,000 per day, attributed to Microsoft by the same Priori Data report. Priori Data’s report |
The distinction matters because copies sold accumulate over time, while active-user figures cover a stated period and concurrent counts are a moment-in-time snapshot. Minecraft is available across multiple platforms and editions; ownership, shared households, inactive copies and repeat purchases mean sales cannot be converted directly into a current player population.

What do the 2026 sales and new-player claims mean?
Priori Data’s October 6, 2026 report attributes two claims to Microsoft/Xbox leadership at Minecraft Live on September 26: more than 425 million copies sold and about 300,000 new players a day. Those figures give context for the game’s reach, but neither is a monthly-active or concurrent count. The sales figure is cumulative; the daily figure describes new players, not the total active audience. The available account is a secondary report, so the claims should be attributed to it rather than presented as independently verified event data.
Microsoft Game Dev had previously described Minecraft as having sold over 300 million copies in an article published in March 2024, referring to a milestone announced the year before. That earlier sales milestone is also cumulative and cannot be compared directly with monthly active users. Microsoft Game Dev’s article

Are Minecraft live player counters official?
Not necessarily. Third-party tracker pages may display changing estimates, but ActivePlayer explicitly says its Minecraft figures are its own estimates and are not official counts from the developer or platform. ActivePlayer’s Minecraft tracker should therefore be treated as an estimate, not as Microsoft’s player count. Its values should not be combined with Microsoft’s monthly-active figure as if both measured the same thing.

Minecraft is played across PC, console and mobile, and its Java and Bedrock editions have different compatibility. The official Minecraft page lists Java cross-play with Windows, Mac and Linux, and Bedrock cross-play with Windows, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PS5 and mobile. Microsoft’s developer article also describes activity across mobile, tablet, console, PC and xCloud. This broad reach helps explain why a single third-party platform counter cannot automatically represent the entire Minecraft audience.
