What the playtester reportedly claimed
Insider Gaming attributed the claims to Reddit user Bigbyy, who said they had taken part in a Call of Duty study group. The report said the group was intended to gauge interest and gather feedback, not present a final feature list. It also said the outlet had contacted the user to verify the account. The claims below should therefore be read as reported allegations, not confirmed game details.
- Campaign: A story set in 2035 after Black Ops 2, featuring Woods and Mason, with co-op for up to four players and an open-world area called Avalon.
- Movement: The return of Omnimovement, alongside wall running.
- Zombies: Original Zombies crew members appearing as multiverse variations; a Tranzit remake; round-based play with a difficulty toggle, a “wonder vehicle,” and a more story-focused role; and a particularly large round-based map.
- Multiplayer: 32-vs-32 matches, remade maps with a futuristic Japanese theme, progression levels for equipment and abilities, and multiplayer progression carrying over from Black Ops 6.
- Separate claim: The report also mentioned a possible Prototype game, while noting that this was an unusual addition to the study-group account.

June 8, 2025: setting and central character
Call of Duty officially confirmed Black Ops 7 on June 8, 2025, placing it in 2035 after the events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6 and identifying David Mason as a central character. The announcement described co-op campaign play, round-based Zombies and listed PS5 among the platforms. Its setting description read: “The year is 2035 and the world is on the brink of chaos, ravaged by violent conflict and psychological warfare following the events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6.”

August 19, 2025: campaign, Avalon and modes
The official worldwide reveal later specified a solo-or-up-to-four-player co-op campaign and described Avalon as an expansive city in the campaign. It named David Mason and Raul Menendez in the story and confirmed round-based Zombies. Call of Duty Staff described the campaign this way: “An Unprecedented Campaign in Black Ops 7 dives deeper into the madness, playable solo or with up to four players.”

The reveal also described 16 signature multiplayer maps, large-scale Skirmish and connected progression. These are the details stated in the official August 19 reveal and its multiplayer and Zombies briefing. The term “connected progression” should not be treated as confirmation that multiplayer progress carries over specifically from Black Ops 6.

But later overlap is not proof that Bigbyy was an authentic playtester, that the study-group account was accurate, or that every detail attributed to the user was in development. A concept discussed to measure player interest can be changed or dropped, as the original report itself warned.
