That is about 98.7% below the peak. It describes simultaneous Steam activity at a captured moment, not the share of buyers who quit or the game’s audience across all platforms.
How much has the Steam count fallen?
SteamDB’s chart page lists an all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players on March 1, 2025. In a snapshot accessed October 8, 2026, it showed 17,588 players in-game and a 24-hour peak of 42,338. Using the captured current count against the all-time peak, 17,588 is about 1.27% of 1,384,608. The difference is approximately 98.7%. That supports the headline claim when “player base” means concurrent Steam players measured against the launch-era peak.
What does “lost 90% of its player base” mean here?
Concurrent players are the number of people playing at the same time. Comparing a present snapshot with an all-time concurrent peak shows how far simultaneous activity has fallen from its highest recorded point; it does not count unique players over a day, month, or the game’s lifetime.

- It does not explain why the count changed. A concurrent-player chart alone cannot establish whether performance, content cadence, reviews, or another factor caused the decline.
How does the Steam count compare with sales?
Capcom reported more than 8 million worldwide sales in the game’s first three days, in an announcement dated March 4, 2025. On March 31, 2025, the company announced first-month sales of more than 10 million units. What do Steam reviews show?
On the Steam store page snapshot accessed October 8, 2026, both the recent and English review groups were marked “Mostly Positive,” with 70% positive in each group. The displayed totals were 2,258 recent reviews and 85,510 English reviews. These figures are changeable review snapshots, not a measure of concurrent players, and they do not establish a cause for the player-count decline. Steam store listing

How to judge claims about a player-count drop
For a meaningful comparison, match the platform, metric, and time window. An all-time peak compared with a current snapshot is not the same comparison as one day’s peak against another day’s peak. Keep concurrent activity distinct from sales, reviews, unique purchasers, and activity on other platforms.
