To beat Moder, prepare for Mountain cold, summon her at the Mountain altar with three Dragon Eggs, use ranged attacks while she is airborne, and take grounded openings when it is safe. Avoid relying on frost damage: Moder is reported to resist it. Clear hazards around the altar before the fight, and bring a plan for the terrain as well as the boss.
What to bring before you summon Moder
The Mountain’s cold is a survival hazard separate from Moder’s attacks. A Wolf Fur Cape or a frost-resistance potion can protect against the biome’s cold, according to PC Gamer’s September 2026 Valheim progression guide. Cold protection does not prevent damage from Moder’s attacks.
- Cold protection: Bring a Wolf Fur Cape or frost-resistance potion so the biome itself is less likely to disrupt the fight.
- Ranged option: Carry a bow and ammunition you can afford and use reliably at your current progression stage. Available guidance recommends ranged attacks while Moder is flying, but does not establish one bow or arrow type as universally best.
- Ground-fight option: Have a weapon ready for grounded openings, but attack only when your positioning and stamina make it safe.
- Area awareness: Scout around the altar and account for terrain and nearby threats before starting. Avoid assuming the arena will be clear or easy to navigate.
How to summon Moder
Find Moder’s altar in the Mountains and offer three Dragon Eggs to summon her. The altar’s location varies by world, so do not rely on a fixed coordinate; use your world’s exploration and map discoveries to locate it. The summoning requirement is described in the Valheim guide at IGN’s Moder guide.
How to fight Moder
When she is flying
Use ranged attacks while Moder is airborne. This gives you a way to keep pressure on her without chasing her across uneven Mountain terrain. Keep moving and watch your position rather than standing still to fire; the available guides support this general approach, not a guaranteed fastest method.

When she lands
Use grounded periods as opportunities to attack, but do not treat every landing as a safe melee window. Check your stamina, distance, and escape route first. If the terrain or her position leaves you exposed, preserve your opening for a safer moment.
Choose damage types sensibly
Do not make frost damage your default against Moder. The community-maintained Valheim wiki reports that she resists frost, while the current guide material recommends fire damage; neither source establishes a complete official elemental-damage comparison. See the wiki’s Moder entry and the IGN guide. Treat fire as a supported option, not proof of a single best weapon or ammunition choice.

What to do if the fight gets disrupted
Moder’s Mountain setting makes terrain and positioning part of the encounter. Nearby threats or awkward footing can interrupt your attack rhythm. If you lose a safe position, prioritize moving to ground where you can see her and manage your stamina before resuming attacks. Do not pursue her blindly into a hazardous area just to maintain damage.
