Which anime game should you choose?
For Dragon Ball battles: DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO
Choose this if you want the visual language and oversized attacks of the anime translated into arena combat. The Xbox product page describes high-speed 3D battles, beam clashes, rush attacks, and ultimate attacks, and lists the game as optimized for Series X|S. That description is official store copy, not an independent evaluation. Xbox gives the release date as October 11, 2024. See the Xbox product page.
Bandai Namco Holdings reported sales of more than 3 million units worldwide within 24 hours of launch and more than 5 million copies worldwide by its February 2025 disclosure. Those are publisher-reported sales figures, not a quality rating or independent verification. Bandai Namco Holdings investor information.
For a character-focused supernatural story: Persona 3 Reload
GamesRadar+ describes Persona 3 Reload as combining supernatural adventure with everyday life. That balance makes it a better fit for someone seeking a story-led role-playing game than a direct anime combat adaptation. It appears on GamesRadar+’s broad all-time anime-games list, which includes both adaptations and games with distinctive anime-style presentation. Check the current Xbox product listing for availability and edition information. GamesRadar+’s anime-games list.
#1 Best Overall
- It is the Taisho Period in Japan; Tanjiro, a kindhearted boy who sells charcoal for a living, finds his family slaughtered by a demon
- Tanjiro resolves to become a “demon slayer” so that he can turn his sister back into a human and kill the demon that massacred his family
- Follow Tanjiro through the story from the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime as he faces demons in order to turn his sister Nezuko, who has become a demon, back into a human
- Master the multitude of spectacular skills of a wide roster of characters from the anime, including Tanjiro and Nezuko, to overcome challengers in head-to-head battle, locally and online
For a One Piece adventure: One Piece Odyssey
One Piece Odyssey is a franchise adventure with a new story and character designs based on the series. It is a natural choice if you already know the Straw Hat crew; GamesRadar+ cautions that readers unfamiliar with One Piece may find the plot harder to follow and that the combat can become repetitive. Bandai Namco lists its date as January 13, 2023. Before purchasing, confirm the precise Xbox Series X|S version and its current availability. Bandai Namco’s game page.

How broad is “anime game”?
There is no single boundary everyone uses. Some players mean licensed adaptations of specific anime; others include original role-playing games and adventures whose art direction and character designs draw strongly on anime. GamesRadar+’s all-time list uses the broader definition: it includes adaptations as well as games with distinctive anime-style presentation. That is why it can include both One Piece Odyssey and Persona 3 Reload.
For a direct adaptation and recognizable characters, start with the licensed fighters or One Piece Odyssey. For an anime-styled game whose appeal is its own story and cast, consider role-playing games such as Persona 3 Reload. That distinction is more useful than treating every title in the category as the same kind of experience.

What the rankings can—and cannot—tell you
GamesRadar+’s July 2026 all-time list places One Piece Odyssey at #20 and discusses Persona 3 Reload for its mix of supernatural events and everyday life. It is one editorial selection, not a measured industry consensus. Read the GamesRadar+ list.
Whatoplay’s Xbox Series X|S anime ranking puts Metaphor: ReFantazio, Persona 5 Royal, Persona 4 Golden, DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO, and Scarlet Nexus near the top. Its displayed scores—including 9.1, 8.9, 8.6, and 8.0—are Whatoplay’s own PlayScore output. They are not universal review scores, and they should not be compared directly with GamesRadar+’s placements because the sites use different approaches. See Whatoplay’s Xbox Series X|S anime ranking.

Check the exact Xbox version before buying
- Open the game’s Xbox product page and confirm that it lists Xbox Series X|S, rather than relying on a publisher catalogue mention alone.
- Check whether the listing says “Optimized for Xbox Series X|S” if that distinction matters to you.
- Review the current edition, price, and availability on the store page. These details can change, and a listing price is not a durable recommendation.
Bandai Namco’s catalogue is useful for finding adaptations such as Naruto X Boruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, One Piece Odyssey, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and Dragon Ball FighterZ, but catalogue presence alone does not establish current Series X|S availability.
