Mike Verdu left Netflix in February 2025, according to a Variety report dated March 12, 2025. The report gives the month, but not an exact departure date or a reason for his exit. Leaving Netflix Games leadership was a separate change
Verdu had already stepped away from leading Netflix Games before he left the company. Variety reported that Alain Tascan took over the top role in Netflix’s gaming department in July 2024, seven months before Verdu’s reported departure.
In November 2024, Verdu described his new position as VP, GenAI for Games. He characterized the leadership handoff as planned, writing, “What you’ve seen over the last several months was actually a planned transition.” He also said, “When Netflix Games hit scale, I knew the time had come to hand off to someone who can take this enterprise to the next level.” Those comments explain his decision to hand gaming leadership to Tascan; they do not explain why he later left Netflix.

What is known about the reason for his departure?
The available reporting does not state why Verdu left Netflix. His public explanation of the planned handoff to Tascan concerned his earlier change in responsibilities, and should not be treated as a reason for his later company departure.
Verdu’s account of Netflix Games
In his 2024 post, Verdu said Netflix Games had delivered more than 100 games and had tested cloud streaming on TV and PC in several countries. These are Verdu’s own claims, not independently verified figures in the available reporting. He also described engagement as having increased “by multiples,” but gave no baseline, specific multiplier or measurement period, so that statement does not establish a quantifiable engagement result.

How Verdu’s Netflix role began
Netflix’s 2021 announcement of its games initiative and acquisition of Night School Studio identified Verdu as VP, Game Development. The announcement said games were included with membership, without ads or in-app purchases at that time; those historical terms should not be read as a description of Netflix’s current games offer.
