Nerscylla is a capturable Temnoceran found in the Oilwell Basin, Ruins of Wyveria, and Iceshard Cliffs. Fire is its strongest average elemental weakness in the version 1.042 data, but the best element depends on the body part and whether its Gypceros hide is intact. Prepare for poison, sleep, and webbing, then target its openings and choose attacks for the part you can reliably hit.
Where to find Nerscylla
The Monster Hunter Wilds database lists Nerscylla in three locales: the Oilwell Basin, Ruins of Wyveria, and Iceshard Cliffs. It is classified as a large Temnoceran and can be captured. The database does not establish a single fixed spawn point or guarantee that it appears in every expedition; check the locale map and quest information for its current presence.
What is Nerscylla weak to?
For game version 1.042, MHWILDSBUILD.COM’s data, verified September 6, 2026, gives fire the highest average elemental hitzone at 17%. The Poisonous Thorn reaches 25% fire damage. Thunder is not the best general-purpose element in the table: its highest listed hitzone is 20% on the stomach. These are part-specific hitzone values, not a guarantee of identical damage from every attack.
The hide changes the matchup. Nerscylla wears Gypceros hide, which the tactics guide describes as resistant to thunder and susceptible to fire. Once the hide is destroyed, that relationship reverses. In practice, fire is a sound choice before the hide breaks; reassess thunder against exposed parts afterward rather than treating either element as universally strongest.

Choose a body part for your weapon
Raw damage also varies by part and damage type. In the same version 1.042 data, the head has hitzone values of 50 for slash, 65 for blunt, and 50 for shot. Blunt weapons therefore get the highest listed raw value on the head, while slash and shot users still have a meaningful target there. Other body parts have different values, so use the opportunity you can safely reach rather than forcing attacks at the head.
How to handle poison, sleep, and webs
Nerscylla’s main hazards are poison, sleep, and binding webbing. Carry suitable recovery items and make space to respond when an effect lands; getting caught by webbing or forced to recover while the monster can follow up is more dangerous than damage alone. Watch its movements instead of assuming that a single ailment preparation covers all three threats.
Recognize the three-slam foreleg attack
The database warns that the three-slam foreleg move is especially dangerous at middle distance. Its guidance is to move in close on the first blow or retreat until all three slams are finished. Do not stop in the space between those choices, where the follow-up sequence can catch you.
Watch for the ceiling drop and sleep claw
Nerscylla can attack from above with a ceiling drop and can use a sleep-inducing claw. Keep track of its position when it climbs out of view, and be ready to evade rather than continuing a long attack animation. If sleep takes hold, use an appropriate recovery option as soon as it is safe.

Available material names depend on rank. The database lists these Low-Rank and High-Rank materials and reward routes; a route means the material can appear through that method, not that it is guaranteed on every hunt.
