Pixelglass describes it as a Doom-clone for the Amiga 500, and creator John Tsakiris lists the Amiga 500, Atari ST, and Mega Drive/Genesis as target platforms for the Dread-engine game. A 2023 report put performance on an Amiga 500 with 1MB of RAM at around 10–12 frames per second, while recommending an Amiga 1200 for smoother play.
What Grind is—and what “close to Doom” means
Grind is an in-development retro FPS associated with Pixelglass and powered by the Dread engine. Pixelglass labels the project a work in progress and calls it a Doom-clone for the A500. The creator-facing project page describes a broader platform scope: Amiga 500, Atari ST, and Mega Drive/Genesis.
The Doom comparison is about the game’s presentation and level features, not its identity: Grind is its own project, not an official Doom port. HotHardware’s October 2023 report describes variable ceiling heights, sector-based lighting, outdoor areas, angled wall geometry, and smooth full-screen rendering among the features that evoke Doom.
How it runs on an Amiga 500
HotHardware reported around 10–12 FPS on an Amiga 500 with 1MB of RAM. That is a reported figure, not a controlled benchmark or a result independently verified here. The same report says the developers recommend an Amiga 1200 for smoother gameplay; the footage embedded in the report was captured on an A1200, so it should not be mistaken for footage of the A500 configuration.

- Amiga used a tick logo on the day that people only believe in Amiga.
- A rainbow double tick logo used in the retro computer scene that was one of the most powerful computers of its time
- Lightweight, Classic fit, Double-needle sleeve and bottom hem
The number gives a useful sense of the trade-off: the project aims to reproduce recognizable FPS environments on period hardware, but the reported A500 performance is modest. The cited material does not provide a controlled, like-for-like Doom benchmark, so it cannot establish numerical performance parity between the games.
What the dated demos show
The 2023 build
HotHardware described the demo shown in its October 12, 2023 report as version 0.3 and incomplete at that time. That is a snapshot of the build shown then, not a description of the current version.
The October 2025 update
In an update dated October 21, 2025, the creator said the team had released a first multi-map version containing three opening levels that could be played from start to finish. The update said an updated version was planned for Patreon. That milestone documents a playable demo; it does not establish that the full game has been completed or publicly released.

The creator’s project page names the Amiga 500, Atari ST, and Mega Drive/Genesis as platforms for Grind. Pixelglass’s description specifically frames it as a work in progress for the A500. These sources establish the project’s stated scope, not that a finished release is available for every listed platform.
