Not as a universal rule. Activision’s 2019 guidance for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare says crossplay is enabled by default, but also gives players a way to disable it. That historical guidance does not establish whether an Xbox-only queue is available for every release, playlist, region, or current matchmaking situation. First confirm whether you mean Modern Warfare (2019), Modern Warfare II (2022), or another Call of Duty game.
What Activision’s guidance says about the 2019 game
For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019), Activision says crossplay connects players on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The feature requires an Activision account, and progression is associated with that account across linked platforms. Documented Xbox One setting
Activision’s Xbox One settings guide, dated October 25, 2019, places the controls under Account Options > Online, where players can turn crossplay and crossplay communication on or off. Why the release and playlist matter
“Modern Warfare” can refer to different games, and their support pages are not interchangeable. Activision publishes separate guidance for Modern Warfare II (2022); the in-game path described on that page is for PlayStation, not Xbox. It does not establish an Xbox setting path for that release. Even when a release offers a crossplay switch, that alone does not tell you whether a particular Xbox-only playlist is currently finding matches. Queue availability can depend on the specific release and mode, and the evidence available here does not establish current queue conditions. What to do if Xbox matchmaking is not finding a game
- Identify the exact game. Check whether it is Modern Warfare (2019), Modern Warfare II (2022), or another release.
- Note the mode and symptom. Record the playlist, whether matchmaking searches indefinitely or shows an error, your region, and when the problem occurred. Without those details, there is no basis to conclude that crossplay is required.
- For the 2019 Xbox One game, inspect its documented setting. Open Account Options > Online and check the crossplay option. Activision’s 2019 guidance documents a toggle, but does not promise that disabling it will find a match in every playlist or at every time.
- Use release-specific support instructions. Do not apply a PlayStation menu path from Modern Warfare II to an Xbox copy, or assume a 2019 menu path is unchanged in another release.
What player reports and older records can—and cannot—show
