In MONOPOLY GO!, shields automatically protect your buildings from demolitions. Landing on a board space marked with a shield replenishes your supply; when a shield blocks a demolition, it is used up. If you earn a shield while already at capacity, it converts into a dice roll. Scopely’s reviewed help material does not state the capacity number.
What shields do in MONOPOLY GO!
Shields are automatic defense for your buildings. You do not activate one manually when another player’s demolition would hit: a shield blocks the demolition, then that shield is consumed. This is the basic gameplay mechanic described in Scopely’s Help Center.
Shields do not make a building permanently immune to attack. Once a shield has been used, you need to collect another to restore that protection.
How to get more shields
- Check the board for spaces bearing a shield icon.
- Land on one of those spaces to collect a shield.
- Continue playing and collect more from shield-marked spaces as your supply is used.
Landing on a shield space is the replenishment method described by Scopely’s support material. The material does not establish a fixed board layout, pickup probability, or a way to steer a roll onto a shield space. Checking the board before rolling can help you see where marked spaces are, but it does not guarantee a pickup.

What happens when your shield supply is full?
When you are at maximum capacity, an additional shield earned converts into a dice roll, according to the Help Center. The support page reviewed does not give the numeric capacity, so there is no verified cap to quote here. Check the current in-game help for the limit applicable to your game.
Shield mechanics, designs, and Shield Ventures compared
The word “shield” can refer to the defensive item, a collectible design, or a limited-time offer. They are related in theme but do not serve the same purpose.

Themed shield designs
Scopely has used promotions to distribute themed shield collectibles. For example, its Happy Harvest Season and Looney Tunes announcement said players could claim a Daffy Duck-themed shield in MONOPOLY GO!. That announcement documents a past promotion, not a guarantee that the design is currently available. Check the live game and official MONOPOLY GO! announcements for active events, eligibility, and expiration details.
Shield Ventures
Scopely’s Help Center describes Shield Ventures as a separate, time-limited offer: players complete tasks by landing on Shield tiles, while purchasing the offer unlocks its rewards and access to them until the offer ends or the tasks are completed. The offer is optional and should not be confused with collecting ordinary shields through regular play. Availability can change, so check the in-game offer and its terms before deciding whether it is relevant to you.

What is not established about shields
The official material reviewed does not state a numeric shield capacity, shield-space drop rate, protection percentage, or strategy that guarantees a landing on a shield space. Avoid relying on exact numbers or promised outcomes unless they are confirmed in current in-game help. MONOPOLY GO! is a free-to-download mobile game for iOS and Android, according to Scopely’s official game page.
