Ancient Wyvern Coins come from several sources in Monster Hunter Wilds: coin-carrying Curioshell Crabs, certain quests, trading, and occasional environmental finds. The clearest fixed rewards are five coins from Aberrant Atrocity and 10 from What We Protect. For exploration finds, treat locations as possibilities rather than guaranteed spawns.
What Ancient Wyvern Coins are
Kiranico describes an Ancient Wyvern Coin as “A rarity found in the East. A coin bearing a delicate etched relief, long out of use.” Its database lists a value of 200 zenny. That listed value is not a recommendation to sell it: coins can also be exchanged through traders, and the useful items depend on their current stock.

How to get Ancient Wyvern Coins
The routes differ in predictability. Named quest rewards have listed quantities; exploration finds and trader stock can vary.

Capture coin-carrying Curioshell Crabs
Use the capture net on a Curioshell Crab carrying a coin. PC Gamer’s guide says Alma may draw attention to a creature holding something and points to an underground spot in the Windward Plains between areas 14 and 15 as a likely early encounter. It is not a guaranteed spawn. The guide notes the crab can be killed, but capturing it is the clearest described way to obtain its carried item.

Complete quests with listed coin rewards
- Aberrant Atrocity lists five Ancient Wyvern Coins as a reward.
- What We Protect lists 10 Ancient Wyvern Coins as a reward.
These are the clearest quantities to plan around. Kiranico lists the rewards; check the quest details in your game in case an update changes them.
Break structures that may contain coins
PC Gamer identifies destructible pillars or rocks in Windward Plains areas 15 and 5 as possible sources. Their contents are uncertain, so break them when convenient, but do not rely on a particular structure for a coin.

Check trades after unlocking them
PC Gamer reports that Rove in the Iceshard Cliffs sometimes offers Ancient Wyvern Coins through trading once trading is unlocked. After reaching High Rank, Nata serves as a trade hub. The guide does not establish exact prices or a stable stock list, so inspect the available offers rather than expecting a specific exchange.
Look for occasional field pickups
Coins can appear as ground pickups. The guide gives Oilwell Basin area 9 and Scarlet Forest area 8 as possible locations, while warning that spawns are inconsistent. It suggests changing time may refresh a pickup, but does not establish that this will reliably produce another coin.

How to spend Ancient Wyvern Coins
Check the trader’s current list before exchanging coins. PC Gamer recommends saving some for High Rank, when later trade offerings can include items used for armor sets, and highlights Gawdygog at the Wudwud Hideout in the Scarlet Forest as a source of trade items. Since inventory can change and a definitive optimal purchase is not established, prioritize offers that support the armor or other goal you are working toward.
- Open the available trader list and identify items you currently need.
- Compare each offer with your build or crafting plans before spending.
- Keep some coins unspent if you expect to use High Rank trading later.
Which acquisition route should you try first?
Choose based on what is available to you, not on a promised farming rate: the quest rewards have listed quantities, while crabs, breakable structures, field pickups, and trades are variable. If you are already exploring, capture a coin-carrying crab and check likely breakables or pickups along the way. If you want a known reward and can access the quests, use their listed payouts as your planning baseline. No single repeatable coin farm or universally best purchase is established by these sources.
