1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThere is no single confirmed “crash after v1.0.1” cause. TaleWorlds’ November 2022 patch notes list several specific crashes that the update fixed, but they do not explain every crash that occurred after installation. Start by verifying the game files, then check your installed version, the exact crash trigger, and whether mods or a particular save are involved.
What v1.0.1 fixed—and what it did not
TaleWorlds published Patch Notes v1.0.1 on 8 November 2022. The single-player fixes cover distinct situations, not one general crash affecting every player. They include crashes:
- After bandit battles near towns.
- When accepting a mercenary offer while a specified quest condition was active, or when the “Lord Needs Tutor” quest was ready to complete while the hero was a prisoner.
- When disbanding an army, or when a “Lord Needs Horses” quest or marriage offer triggered a particular crash.
- In photo mode during a partial installation, in Custom Battle due to battle terrain, or when expired tracks were processed.
- When opening the encyclopedia page of a leaderless party, or entering or exiting scenes.
- In a lord’s hall fight with multiple attacking siege engines if the player attacked before one had finished building.
- When loading an older-version save with an active siege in Sanala, Razih, or Charas.
The notes also list multiplayer server and client crash fixes, plus a crash involving AI-agent cache records shared across modes. These entries show which reported conditions the patch addressed; they do not establish that every crash after updating had the same cause or that v1.0.1 fixed all crashes.
Start with the checks that narrow the problem
1. Confirm the installed version and platform
Version 1.0.1 is a historical release, not the end of Bannerlord’s patch history. TaleWorlds’ official game page and its later patch notes document subsequent updates. The version available to you can depend on platform, branch, and installed expansions, so check the version shown by your own copy rather than assuming it is still on 1.0.1.
2. Verify the game files
A TaleWorlds-published Steam Technical Support thread on common issues and workarounds recommends verifying files as an initial check because an update can leave files missing or corrupted. The thread was last updated on 14 June 2022 and cautions that the listed workarounds do not work for everyone. Treat verification as a reasonable first step, not a guaranteed fix for a current build.

3. Match the crash to a specific trigger
Note whether the crash occurs on launch, while loading, during a scene transition, or after a repeatable in-game action. Compare that action with the v1.0.1 list only if the circumstances actually match. For example, the Sanala, Razih, and Charas entry concerns an older-version save with an active siege; it does not identify a cause for a crash in an unrelated save or location.
4. Check for an incomplete update when it applies
Later TaleWorlds notes describe a specific case in which War Sails and the base game downloads were temporarily out of sync: launching before both had updated could cause a crash, and the notes advise verifying files for that issue. This is tied to that expansion and update context, not a universal remedy for v1.0.1 problems. See the WS v1.1.2 / BL v1.3.14 notes and WS v1.0.3 / BL v1.3.7 notes.

What to include in a useful crash report
If the first checks do not resolve the problem, record the details that distinguish one failure from another:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Platform and store, plus the exact installed game version.
- Whether the game is modded.
- When the crash happens: at launch, during loading, on a scene transition, or after a named action.
- Whether it affects one save or also happens in a new campaign.
- Any displayed error message or crash-report details.
These details help narrow the report; none, by itself, proves a particular cause. Later releases also have their own version-specific fixes: for example, TaleWorlds’ v1.3.5 notes, dated 26 November 2025, list an initial loading-screen crash fix. That is another reason to report the version you are actually running rather than treating every crash as a v1.0.1 bug.
