Mr. President: The American Presidency, 2001–2020 is a solo game about governing after you have won the election—not a campaign game about getting elected. You play the president, trying to advance an agenda while managing Congress, crises, foreign affairs and limited resources. GMT Games’ physical second edition is a substantial tabletop game; a separate digital adaptation is also listed on Steam.

What kind of game is Mr. President?

It is a solitaire political strategy simulation. The premise begins after the election: you take office and try to govern through a turbulent presidency, balancing domestic priorities, Congress, national security, foreign relations and presidential reputation. BoardGameGeek describes the game as governing after election, rather than campaigning for votes. BoardGameGeek’s listing characterizes it as a resource-management game.

The central pressure is that presidential demands outnumber the resources available to address them. Choices about what to handle—and what to leave unattended—shape the developing narrative of events, crises and opportunities. The design encompasses the economy, the press, homeland security, allies, and rival or hostile states, as well as Congress and presidential prestige.

How long does the tabletop game take?

BoardGameGeek lists a play time of 360–600 minutes for a full game. That is a community database estimate, not a publisher-guaranteed session length; expect a long commitment, particularly while learning the systems and consulting the game’s many references.

What does the Steam adaptation add?

Steam lists Mr. President as a single-player simulation and strategy game developed by Exia Labs and published by Exia Labs and GMT Games. The storefront describes it as a faithful adaptation of the tabletop design. Its summary includes selecting a cabinet, managing domestic and diplomatic crises, dealing with Congress and the Supreme Court, running for reelection and allocating a limited action budget.
