New World: Aeternum is an online-only action RPG that existing owners can play only until Amazon Games shuts its servers down on January 31, 2027. The game was delisted on January 15, 2026, and in-game purchases ended on July 20, 2026. That finite service window is central to any review: the combat, exploration, crafting, and multiplayer may still be available to owners, but the game will not be accessible after shutdown. Amazon’s product descriptions establish what the game offers; they do not establish how well those systems play, so this review distinguishes documented features from judgments that would require hands-on testing.
What is New World: Aeternum?
Amazon describes New World: Aeternum as an action RPG set on the supernatural island of Aeternum, where players can adventure alone or with others, build a home, fight in real time, and take part in small- and large-scale player-versus-player battles. Steam categorizes it as an action, adventure, massively multiplayer, and role-playing game. Its store description highlights classless combat, weapons and supernatural abilities, gathering, crafting, and character customization. These are publisher and storefront descriptions, not independent assessments of quality.
The Aeternum release launched on October 15, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Amazon says supported platforms share cross-platform play. It also cited console-oriented interface and combat features, including target locking, aim assist, and smart cast. Amazon’s overview of New World: Aeternum describes the release and its advertised features.
What is it like to play?
The available product descriptions point to a mix of real-time weapon combat, supernatural abilities, exploration, resource gathering, crafting, customization, solo progression, group activities, and PvP. They do not establish whether combat feels responsive, whether the story is compelling, how well the systems are balanced, or whether the game performs smoothly. Those are hands-on questions, not facts that can be settled from a feature list.
- Combat: Steam describes a classless system built around weapons and abilities. Amazon highlights console controls such as target locking, aim assist, and smart cast.
- Progression and crafting: Store descriptions include gathering, crafting, and character customization, but do not show how rewarding or time-consuming those systems are.
- Playing with others: Amazon lists team play and PvP at different scales; supported platforms have cross-platform play.
- Solo play: Both the Amazon and Steam descriptions allow for solo adventuring, but they do not establish how complete or satisfying the solo experience is.
How long can you play New World: Aeternum?
Amazon Games says the servers will permanently go offline on January 31, 2027. The game requires an internet connection and has no offline mode, so after shutdown it will be inaccessible on every platform, including for people who own it. The shutdown date is a firm limit on access, not an estimate of how long a particular player will need to complete the game. See Amazon Games’ shutdown announcement and FAQ.
Amazon says the Nighthaven season was extended through shutdown. It also says there will be no new content or further server merges, while the team will continue monitoring bugs and performance. World bosses and bonus weeks were to continue until the servers close. In an October 28, 2025 announcement, Amazon identified Season 10 and Nighthaven as the final content release; the later shutdown announcement set the definitive end date. Amazon’s October 2025 update records that content decision.

Can you still buy or install the game?
No. Amazon Games announced that New World: Aeternum was delisted on January 15, 2026, and is no longer available for purchase. If you purchased it previously, Amazon says you can continue playing until shutdown and can reinstall it. Access nevertheless depends on Amazon’s servers remaining online.
Platform-specific subscription requirements, regional storefront availability, and refund eligibility are not established here. Amazon’s FAQ directs players with purchase or refund questions to contact the platform where they bought the game.

Can you still buy in-game currency?
No. Amazon Games set July 20, 2026, as the end of sales for Marks of Fortune and all other in-game purchases. That cutoff has passed. The game’s continued availability to existing owners does not mean its in-game store remains open.
What are the PC requirements?
Steam’s listing specifies a persistent internet connection and no offline mode. It lists 100 GB of storage and 8 GB of RAM as minimum PC requirements and notes that specifications may change. Check the current Steam listing for the full requirements before installing; these figures are listing details, not a guarantee of performance on a particular PC.
Is New World: Aeternum worth playing?
That depends on what you want from it and whether you already own it. For an existing owner, the announced shutdown does not prevent play today, but it means the experience has a fixed end and cannot be preserved as an offline game afterward. For someone who does not own it, the game is no longer available to purchase through the announced channels. The available evidence documents the game’s feature set and service timeline but does not support a verdict on how enjoyable, balanced, populated, or technically polished it is.
