MapleStory Universe is Nexon’s blockchain ecosystem built around the MapleStory franchise. Its first game, MapleStory N, launched for PC in May 2025 on a custom Avalanche Layer 1 powered by AvaCloud, according to the project’s launch announcement. Nexon’s current product listing excludes the United States, Japan, South Korea, China and other regions, so access depends on where you live.
What is MapleStory Universe?
MapleStory Universe (MSU) is a group of games and applications built around MapleStory intellectual property, rather than a single game. Nexon Universe identifies itself as the developer of MapleStory N, the first game in the ecosystem. The project describes MSU as a Layer 1 ecosystem for MapleStory-based applications and experiences.
In March 2024, Avalanche announced a strategic partnership with MSU, saying the project would use a custom Avalanche Layer 1 and AvaCloud. The subsequent launch announcement says MapleStory N was live on PC using that chain infrastructure, superseding the earlier announcement’s end-of-2024 launch target. Avalanche’s partnership announcement framed the chain choice as a project decision based on security and support for Web3 games; that is the partners’ stated rationale, not an independent comparison of blockchains.
Is MapleStory N live, and what kind of game is it?
Nexon lists MapleStory N as a PC blockchain game with a May 2025 launch date. The project’s May 15, 2025 launch announcement describes it as combining MapleStory’s 2D presentation and gameplay with NFTs, on-chain item mechanics and open marketplaces. Project materials describe familiar activities such as completing quests, fighting monsters, earning, crafting and trading assets. These are the publisher’s descriptions; they do not establish independent assessments of gameplay quality, performance or the value of any asset.

The broader ecosystem is intended to include “Synergy Apps,” or content and decentralized applications made by fans and developers. The project’s whitepaper outlines several components:
- MapleStory N: the first game in the ecosystem.
- Marketplace: a venue described for MapleStory NFTs and fungible tokens.
- Navigator: an application for token and player information.
- Explorer: a dashboard for network and wallet activity.
- Swap & Warp: tools for NXPC/NESO exchanges and cross-chain transfers.
- Reactor: mechanisms for creating and exchanging assets.
- SDK: developer access to character, NFT, marketplace and network data.
The whitepaper cautions that using MapleStory IP through the SDK does not grant intellectual-property rights unless Nexpace explicitly grants them.
What does Avalanche do in MapleStory N?
Avalanche is the blockchain infrastructure named for MapleStory N. The project says the game runs on a custom Avalanche Layer 1, with AvaCloud providing infrastructure services. In practical terms, the chain is the foundation for the project’s described on-chain assets and related applications; it is not a separate game mode or a guarantee that every game action is recorded on-chain.
The Avalanche partnership was announced on March 11, 2024. Its original launch timing is historical: the May 2025 announcement later described MapleStory N as live. The launch release also characterized NXPC as integral to MSU and said it launched on seven exchanges on May 15, 2025. That dated statement is not confirmation of current exchange availability.

How do MapleStory N’s NFTs and tokens work?
According to the MSU whitepaper, key game items can be represented as NFTs or fungible tokens in limited quantities, while game systems may use dynamic rewards and enhancement pricing. The launch announcement describes “Fusion-Fission” exchanges between NXPC and NFT collections. These are project-defined mechanics, not evidence that an item will be easy to sell or retain value.
Blockchain assets can carry market and technical risks. The project’s descriptions do not establish guaranteed returns, stable token value, reliable resale demand or marketplace liquidity. Treat NXPC, NFTs and other assets as optional digital assets with uncertain value, not as dependable financial benefits of playing.

Can I play MapleStory N in the United States?
Nexon’s product listing says MapleStory N is not serviced in the United States, Japan, South Korea, China and other specified regions. Because supported territories can change, consult the official MapleStory N listing for the current availability information before attempting to register or play. The game is listed for PC; the cited listing does not establish a console version.

Nexon’s FY2024 shareholder letter reported that Global MapleStory grew 24% in 2024 and represented 35% of MapleStory franchise revenue that year. Those are figures for Global MapleStory and the broader franchise, not performance, player numbers or revenue for MapleStory Universe or MapleStory N. Nexon’s FY2024 shareholder letter provides the franchise-level context.
