How NYT Pips works
Pips is a domino-placement logic puzzle: place dominoes to fill the board while satisfying the condition shown in each color-coded region. Number regions require their target sum. Equal regions require matching values; Unequal regions require different values. Greater Than and Less Than regions require totals above or below the displayed threshold. The board layout changes between difficulties, but the rule types remain consistent. Bored Panda’s rules explainer recommends tackling strict Number or Equal regions before more flexible spaces. Its practical advice is to work backward from trickier rules, then fit remaining dominoes into open areas.
