How Strands worked in the 2024 guide
Forbes described a 6-by-8 letter grid. Words could be traced through adjoining letters horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, with direction changes allowed. Theme words turned blue when found; the spangram turned yellow and connected opposite sides of the board. Finding three valid non-theme words of at least four letters unlocked a hint that highlighted a theme word. These mechanics describe the 2024 guide and should not be assumed to reflect every later version of the interface.
