Try these clues in order, stopping when you have enough to continue:
- The theme is “It’s a banner day.” Look for things that might appear on a flag.
- The regular answers begin with these letter pairs, in no particular order: ST, CR, ST, SH, MO, TR, CR.
- The spangram begins FL. It is mostly vertical, running from the bottom to the top of the fourth column.

How to play NYT Strands
- Find theme words to fill the board. Found theme words stay highlighted in blue.
- Drag across letters, or tap them to form a word; double-tap the last letter to submit when tapping.
- Theme words fill the board, and they do not overlap.
- The spangram describes the theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. It may consist of two words and highlights in yellow when found.
- Find three non-theme words to earn a hint.
