Capcom announced an Ōkami sequel project at The Game Awards 2024, with the announcement dated December 13, 2024. Hideki Kamiya is directing the project at CLOVERS, and Capcom is publishing it. No release date or platforms were included in the official announcement.
What Capcom announced
Capcom described the project as the beginning of a new tale for the Ōkami series and said work had begun. The announcement confirms a sequel project, but it does not establish that the final game will be titled Ōkami 2; that is a common shorthand, not a confirmed title.
Capcom’s December 13, 2024 announcement revealed the project at The Game Awards 2024 and described the original game’s premise: players take the role of Amaterasu in a Japanese-style world and set out to bring life back.
Who is making the sequel?
Hideki Kamiya is directing the sequel at CLOVERS, with Capcom as publisher. Capcom says the project is being co-developed with the original director and members of the original Ōkami development team. Capcom France names M-TWO Inc., Machine Head Works Inc., and CLOVERS as co-development studios.

In a September 15, 2025 interview with VGC, Kamiya, identified as CLOVERS Studio Head and Chief Game Designer, said, “Everything we’re doing right now is a lot of fun.” The remark describes his view of the studio’s work; it is not a development milestone or schedule update. Read the VGC interview.
Does the announcement teaser show gameplay?
No. CLOVERS explicitly says the teaser contains no in-game footage. It establishes that the project is underway, but its imagery should not be taken as evidence of gameplay, mechanics, or the finished game’s graphics. CLOVERS’ official announcement describes the teaser and the project.

Okami 2 release date and platforms
The official announcements cited here do not give a release date or platform list. They also do not establish a price, preorder availability, release edition, or detailed gameplay features. These details remain unconfirmed by the cited sources; their absence from those announcements does not prove that no later update exists.

The original Ōkami was released in 2006. It is an action-adventure game starring Amaterasu, and Capcom France highlights its Celestial Brush mechanic. Capcom France also identifies Ōkami HD as a remastered version released on Nintendo Switch. That is an existing version of the original game, not the announced sequel. Capcom France’s announcement provides the additional series and co-development context.
